I feel like people say it's stupid now, but I'm afraid that later on people might forget how truly stupid this is. John seriously put himself in a
position where it's almost impossible for him to win. His side has now lost majority and he will definitely be one of the first ones voted out, as the
other side does not need him for votes, and really has no allegiance to him. This is as opposed to other people who didn't force ties such as Eliza (who
had no real allegiances to anyone, and thus couldn't really trust that Julie/Ami wouldn't burn her at the end), or Denise (who would have made it
impossible for herself to win.) Both of their failures to force ties also happened when they were guaranteed to make endgame anyway, and thus relying on
possible immunities would not have been an improbable situation.
John basically did this to avoid a 1/7 shot that he would be going home. Well, upon doing this, John just insured that unless he win's Immunity, there's more than a 1/7 shot that he goes him each week anyway. Getting yourself three more days is useless if you have no shot at even getting close to the endgame anymore. And he's a rocket scientist, so I doubt he even needs the couple thousand extra this might get him.
