In no particular order, here are some of my samplings from the Beeb ( Not including any Britcoms, dramas or SciFi ): Atom Everest er The Cell Christianity Oceans The Incredible Human Journey The Strange and the Dangerous Law and Disorder I'll expand the list later to include single episode shows, music and such. I've also downloaded dozens of BBC radio broadcasts that I plan to listen to in the car at some point. My favorite documentarian at the moment is Louis Thoreaux, who did the last two series. Great stuff!

Check out the ep where he went to visit the Bo Grissom and the separatists in the Dakotas -- he made friends with them. What's he doing now? What is the name of the show where they had superheroes albeit kind of lame superheroes hanging out in a pub and taking potshots at each other? I saw a trailer for it and have always wanted to see the full series. ETA: also are the Brit remakes of Law & Order season 1 out there yet?

I was unaware of his previous work, but looked him up and see he used to work on Spy Magazine, which is cool. The superhero show was 'No Heroics' and it was funny as all get out. I don't know if there's a Britcom thread, but the 'How Not to Live Your Life' has some funny moments. Looks for the 7-episode series 'Nathan Barley' while you're at it. I had heard The IT Crowd was coming to the US, but then nothing. That had some classic bits too...

It was a series -- he hung out with female bodybuilders and a filmmaker who makes softcore fetish pron of them simply carrying guys around a bedroom, he hung out with Al Sharptons crew in NYC and some truly insane black muslims, he spent time in CA chatting with true porn stars and made friends with a Brit actress (not to mention trying to apply for a role himself), and of course the classic with the separatists. Awesome stuff. I was always hoping there'd be a new series and hope what you're talking about is it. You know he's Paul Theroux's son, right? The bad news is that I read that Bob Saget is set to launch a similar type series. "No Heriocs" -- many thanks. Will look for it this weekend.

In Theroux's current contract there is one more due in 2009, might have aired already, dunno. It is the only one I don't have. I believe I read that he just signed a new contract with the beeb extending his multi year deal. effer, remember my BEGGING of people to watch Nathan Barley, well my new pick is Misfits. Trust me when I say the characters are as good as Nathan Barley. second ep aired yesterday. links in the Misfits thread here. Don't let the concept throw you off. It is brilliant in a low rent trashy brit tv way. Bad Girls was on for 7 seasons. Women in P R I S O N effer! LESBIANS! The series is being reimagined by HBO for 2010, so watching the 7 year U.K. original is a must do thing. Wire in the Blood and Touching Evil were two separate series starring a brilliant actor named Robson Green as the main character (a shrink in one, cop in the other), both series are serial killer related. Touching Evil episodes are 85 minutes long. American programs like Criminal Minds are so weak in comparison. There are two U.K. shows from the 1970s that predated US gritty police dramas, The Sweeney and Special Branch. Hill Street Blues & NYPD Blue should pay residuals to both series. UKNova.com is good for recent torrents, but they delete the torrents after a few months same seeding policy as TheBox.bz

Posts: 679 (11/20/09 7:35 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	Oh, Law and Order UK is very well acted, BUT they lifted the entire plot of an old L&O episode from the early days of the original series. The one where the suspect burns down a building filled with immigrants and has the gas tubing melted into his flesh. That stunt pissed me awf! Otherwise it is as good as the best U.S. Law and Order episodes. The Brit courts and different social dynamic make for an interesting time waster. I don't hate Bamber who played Apollo on BSG as much.... he is decent as the younger cop. It is a likable role, unlike his roles on Battlestar Galactica and Horatio Hornblower

I'll also put in my 2 cents and recommend Waking the Dead (cold cases). A friend recommends The Thick of It (Yes Minister for the 21st century), but I haven't watched it myself. That man is hilarious. Especially the radio stuff, and anything he did with Stewart Lee and Richard Herring (the funniest two men you've never heard of outside the UK). I'll be glad to see Primeval come back. It's not a great show, but it's not bad, and it really sucked the way ITV was just going to end it. The last Louis Theroux doc was The City Addicted to Crystal Meth. The one on Philadelphia was crazy, and so sad. I watched the first 6 or 7 episodes of L&O:UK and they were all remakes of old US episodes. It got annoying after a while (I guess I've watched too many old eps, but they're hard to avoid!). I did like all the lead actors, though. If they stop remaking eps and make their own stories, I'd definitely watch it again. Oh, yeah, my last 2 cents...Harry Hill's TV Burp. I was skeptical because so many people said it was the funniest thing on TV, which usually means I won't think it's funny, but that man is awesome. Even his stupid and juvenile stuff! He's great.

As a Brit, it's the only show I bother watching that's not downloaded from another country The only other British scripted programme I cared about was Peep Show (which is the real funniest thing on TV). .anything that has Armando Iannucci's name attached to it is bound to be good. Friday Night Armistice is GOLD. I'm pretty sure he did some stuff on 'This Morning, With Richard Not Judy', which is even better.

I love Peter Baynham, too (at least the Pre-Hollywood version). Some of the stuff he did on the Lee and Herring Radio One Show made me cry with laughter. I must download that. Armando didn't work on TMWRNJ, that was all written by Lee and Herring. He did work with them before and after that, though. I haven't watched Peep Show, but I do like That Mitchell and Webb thing/sound/show stuff (REMAIN INDOORS!). I just didn't have time to catch up. I'll have to check out the first few eps now.
