Lynne Spillman Sucks (Go Vote Poll at CBS.com) |
Lead | |
|
People, the day the applications went up is the day S21 began. We (fans/applciants) are on the same tribe. The #1 thing you can do to improve your odds of ever
getting cast is to impact the thinking at CBS on the use of recruits in the future. If S21/22 follows the trend of S18 and S19, we can expect roughly 4
applicants on S21. If by voicing your collective anger at CBS over recruiting Survivor, this alters CBS' casting decision by just one more applicant - that
will increase your chances of getting on by 25%. We need to stick together and send the Recrutes to TC and get them voted off. Thanks for any support you can
lend to impacting CBS/SEG's thinking on recruits.

In the eyes of the casual viewer, this is one of the greater seasons. The ratings and viewers are up from last season.
They are doing something right. |

4 applicants? Samoa had 10 recruits 10 applicants. But I will check this out.

There's no rule saying people that apply are anymore entertaining than people that are recruited. For as many people that are recruited and end up boring,
there have been just as many that applied and were or are boring just the same.
It's so hit and miss no matter how they get on the show. You aren't going to be able to tell how interesting or how big or what kind of character someone is going to be when they get out there. Someone can completely win over the casting in the interview process then completely bomb as a player on the show, conversely, someone can completely bomb or be very "bleh" during the interview process but once they get out there they end up being a fantastic player/character. Doesn't matter if they are a recruit or applicant. Does matter? You people will watch the season anyone even if the entire cast were recruited or applied on their own, so who cares?! |

Recruits v Applicants | ||
|
The evaluation of recruits v applicants based on how far they go is more complicated than it might appear. The problem is that the casting has not been a
random sample of each group. For example, the pure applicants on Samoa are Shambo 45, Betsy 48, Mike 62, and Russell S 42 ... all over 40. Realty Blurred has
info on the schism inside SEG and CBS over the use of recruits and the assertion that applicants are used to fill
"fodder" slots to prop up Lynne's recruits. Then there is the issue of the half applicants - those people who apply to TAR/BB/Pirates that get
sent to Survivor, a rather solid group in Samoa; Ashley 22 (TAR), Natalie 26 (TAR), Laura 39 (TAR), Russell H 36 (Pirates). Tocantins was won by one of only 4
applicants, JT. Fiji had only 1 of 20 (one recruit walked off the set hours beore filming started) who was an applicant, the 53 year old and very fodder like,
Gary.
I am still trying to compile a list of recruits versus applicants for all seasons. But as a proxie for recruits, Californians have finished one position lower (eliminated sooner) on average than the rest of the states, Among states with a statistically signifcant sample, Pennsylvanians are #1. In fact, Californians have finished lower than over 40s (who finish below 20s who finish below 30s). |

Why does recruiting matter? | ||
|
Grenade (a very solid poster I always read when I see his stuff) and others ask a good question ... why does it matter?
Here's just one - Legality and Ethics - No contract can exempt the parties from the law. If Survivor is a casted show, then the Survivors are subject to U.S. labor laws. But when you lock people in hotel rooms for a week, rouse them out of bed in the middle of the night, then send them onto an island for 39 days with little food ... the closest analogy to what you are doing is some kind of entertainment sweatshop. CBS and other reality shows avoid this by claiming that it is a contest. If its a contest then it skates up against federal game show laws, and contest laws of the several states. To the extent then CBS is telling applicants to apply and then casting friends to participate in the contest for a million bucks, they are acting at least unethically and possible criminally. I know people will say, who fucking cares. Everyone signs a contract. As a libertarian myself, I will happily trade the precident set by CBS and Survivor for the right to claim that I can do whatever the fuck I want so long as I get others to sign contracts that exempt me from the law. Cool. I'll open a restaraunt and demand you work whenever the fuck I want you to, just sign here. I'll run a contest where people who use my product can have a chance to spin a wheel for a million bucks ... but I'll only let my friends spin ... just sign here if you want to play. There are a lot of other reasons why recruiting the show matter, but I'll keep this to just this one hornet's nest. Cheers |

In fact, Californians have finished lower than over 40s (who finish below 20s who finish below 30s).That data is pretty meaningless, since lots of them were in fact living in California (or in some cases, NY) for awhile, but were listed as their hometowns that they hadn't lived in in a couple of years. Others in the same boat were listed as LA. It's very hard to know exactly who was "from" where and how to count it for any sort of statistic. |

It's not that Lynne recruits people at all, it's just that she recruits some of the dullest and one-note characters in this show's history. You
can't tell me that half the cast of the last three seasons aren't complete duds who aren't worth watching. Samoa had a horrible pre-merge and is
only good now because the guy who has been 50% of the airtime of this entire season and his three boring friends were able to overthrow seven boring people
with the help of some underdog-wannabe bitch who has no social skills whatsoever.
You idiots keep forgetting that most of this cast is fucking dead weight. Hell, last season more people were playing for JT to win than for themselves to win. Wouldn't it be better to have 16-20 people who are all interesting and willing to play the game instead of 8 people like that and 12 duds who don't give a shit and who just sit there and do jack shit? It's not necessarily recruiting that sucks, it's just Lynne Spillman, who is fucking lazy at her job and puts no effort into actually recruiting genuinely interesting people. She and her idiot followers should be fired, if not murdered. |
