A VH1 reality series that promises an inside look at the lives of NBA players' wives and girlfriends is set to air early next year.

VH1 said Monday that "Basketball Wives" will show the upside of the women's lives - big homes, designer clothes and jewelry - and the drawbacks, including worries about whether their husbands are being faithful on roadtrips.

Shaquille O'Neal's wife, Shaunie, will be featured and is an executive producer. Others taking part are Eric Williams' wife, Jennifer, and Mesha O'Neal, married to Jermaine O'Neal.

giggles. this should be good and bust open all those stereotypes.

eta: Dwight Howard working hard to keep his baby mama off this show:
The days of Royce Lyndsay Reed bad-mouthing Orlando Magic player Dwight Howard on national TV are numbered, because according to a court ruling, she's not even allowed to say his name anymore. TMZ reports that Howard won a permanent injunction against Reed, who's the mother of his two-year-old son.

In the past, Reed hasn't shied away from trash talking Howard, having called him a deadbeat dad on her blog and Twitter -- and even in an interview with ESPN. Howard decided it was time to put an end to all of that, and in the court documents filed in Florida, he claimed Reed was only trying to become famous from her ranting. In fact, he said she'd agreed to participate in a VH1 reality show called NBA Wives.

Thanks to the new injunction, Reed likely will not be able to star in the series. She's been blocked from "using or publishing (orally, in writing, or otherwise), directly, indirectly or by innuendo, [Dwight's] name, nicknames, image, brand photographs, and/or likeness."
