Kwan was one of the names, because she specifically said that she didn't know if she was supposed to protect Sun or Jin. Jack and Hurley were on the list, implied by the conversation at the campfire. Were the other three names ever mentioned by her? The remaining three names at the cave were Locke, Sayid and Sawyer, right? MIB crossed off Locke. Let's assume Sayid and Sawyer were also on Illana's list. Would Locke have been the sixth name on that list? At the time Jacob gave her the list, she was still wrapped in bandages at a hospital. She would have needed to get back to capture Sayid, so there is a good chance Locke was still alive at the point when Jacob made the list (so still a candidate), but it's possible that Jacob 'knew' Locke would lose his candidacy before Illana could perform her service, so there's a chance that the sixth name was Kate instead of Locke.

So its ok to assume that the cave wall either crossed off a name it shouldnt have, or there is someone out there that even the cave wall and MIB never had on their radar. But Kate is still a definite possibility even though MIB and Widmore say no.

Still, I don't see a big mystery here. We have The Numbers and the names that go with The Numbers. Kate ain't one of them.

When Jack was calling for a first aid kit in order to treat Kate's gunshot wound, why did no one grab the kit that was located on the bridge (behind the Captain) that was so prominently displayed during the show?
