In this thread may be discussed theories about plots/characters that are too general to have their own thread. It will serve as a gathering place for all those posts where newbies say "omg i think they're dead and in purgatory!" and so forth.

I think the producers have no idea of what or why the island is there and they're just hoping that the show will be cancelled before they have to explain everything.

There are some great theories in the spoiler thread, maybe the people who came up with them will dig them out and post them here as "Theories with Spoilers" to get the ball rolling. It'd be a shame to loose them buried in the old thread. I never read the non-spoiler thread so I don't know what they have going on over there.

In the beginning..............
The show had a beginning, a middle and an end. In case it didn't make it thru the first season. Now whether they scratched all that or not who knows. But at ONE time they DID know what the island was, why the losties were there, and, ultimately, their fates and raison etre. |

OMG I HAVE AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT!!
Maybe... ...they're in an insane asylum! |

I agree with Cat spasams. Insane asylum, or experimental therapy that involves heavy experimental psychotropics. I still think that's how it's going to end. I also think next season may be the last. It didn't have to be that way.

where to start?
1. An elaborate experiment where the clueless & manipulated test subjects are scrutinized and analyzed. ...a. By aliens (think zoo or ant farm) ...b. By some super secret illuminati type group. ...c. By researchers of some Secret Government project like The Philadelphia Experiment. ...d. By some whacked-out rich guy with strange fetishes. ...e. By some sleep/dream researchers. ...f. By President Logan's puppet masters. 2. A study in Mass Hysteria. 3. They're all on a space ship , sharing a dream while in a cryogenic state. 4. They're all figments of Hurley's imagination. 5. One very Long-Con to get a hold of Hurley's lotto winnings. 6. The island is an experimental prison system, with the inmates memories manipulated. 7. They're all on a virtual vacation like the one Ah-nold took in Total Recall. 8. They're all in a Mental Institution. See number 2. that's a start anyway. Debunked bt show writers: They're all in puratory. They're time travelers. |

Maybe they're all actors on a show, and people across the world are watching them. Then it ends with no explanation and all the fans commit suicide.
Solved. |

I think either one of the charcters or another unknown charcter has multiple personality disorder and they are all personalities in someones brain.

Although I would hate for this to be the answer but someone (not sure who now) posted that this entire experience might be a RPG. It made sense at the time, but if that's the answer, it would be a tremendous letdown.

yeah, RPG is one of my (along with others i'm sure) many "middle think" theories. some of the show really seems like it. i too would be somewhat disappointing if the last shot is a muffled "timmy, time for dinner" and a kid turns off jack and kate locked in a passionate embrace and runs off to set the dinner table.

If it ended up being that everyone was a personality trapped in one of the people's heads, I'd go crazy. It would be too much like Identity.
I'm still thinking its one big dream sequence or it is a government experiment. |

Hurley got up in the middle of the night and polished off an entire jar of ranch dressing. The show is his bad dream caused by food poisoning.
The last scene will be Hurley waking up covered in puke and globs of semi-digested ranch dressing. |

ODG(Oh Dear Gawd) does no one remember the comic book? The one Hurly brought on board and the one Walt read? Don't forget the "super heros and the alien". I know they swore aliens had nothing to do with it but they NEVER mentioned the super heros.
off topic- Man, I just came from the AI site and those people are one big group of mean Muthas! |
