The show is looking for a lite Brett Ratner-type that can be easily molded. The winner will be a loser no matter how its presented.

How about that guy that pitched a movie called "Ratman" to the Ratman himself. He looked a little uncomfortable, like they called him that in grade school.

Quote: Possibly. But I wouldn't say "easily molded." They're probably looking with someone with a unique voice or style with good, interesting ideas that are commerical. They're not going to give a development deal to someone whose taste is so ideosyncratic that they don't appeal to a wide section of the potential audience. This is Dreamworks we're talking about here. Quote: I would have to disagree completely. No matter how you look at it, having a development deal with a major studio is a huge opportunity. It could be the start of a very lucrative and lasting career if the winner does it right. Even the finalists who don't win are going to get exposure that's going to open doors at other production companies. |

The premiere didn't do well in the ratings. It got a 5.4/8 rating, losing over half of the lead-in audience from AI.

Bad night for a premiere - too many other shows wrapping up
Should've waited another week - but I'm sure they wanted the Idol lead-in |

I finally know somebody on a reality show - Hilari Scarl. Haven't seen her since she moved to LA, but I worked with her in theatre Atlanta. We weren't bff's or anything, but hung in the same group for several years. She's a nice chick and very talented.

Is she the one that told the other chick what she was thinking of pitching, and that chick refused to share her idea thinking her idea would be stolen?

So does anyone think that it will shown for the full summer, as planned, with the current ratings? Hopefully they keep it going anyway, and maybe the ratings will pick up next week when the episodes go live.

The first challenge sucked. If you're looking for the next bright filmmaker, why not have them pitch their own, original ideas for movies instead of the same tired prefabricated concepts that've been coming out of Hollywood for decades? I'm sure some of those folks could have come up with better ideas than those hack stories they were forced to pitch.
But then, maybe I'm wrong in thinking they're looking for someone with new ideas. Maybe they just want to find someone to put out the same cookie-cutter crap that's ruining Hollywood. |

I think the logic is that if you can't come up with a pitch on a tired format that has already been done before, you are beyond saving.

I liked it. Not blown away, but I thought it was good, even though the host was terrible.
Quote: Agreed. It was kind of hard to follow who made it and who didn't since we only knew about five or six people really. Maybe a top 24 with no eliminations until the second episode. |

Re: On The Lot -- EPMB & Spielberg Team Up | ||

Yeah. The host at the beginning was pretty bad. I don't think I even caught her name. Luckily, Carrie and the other judges took over.
Quote: Either that or have an additional starting episode to showcase the top 30 or however many in interviews and have short clips of their work. Quote: The loglines are just starting points. It's their job to get creative with it and come up with something that has potential or at least sounds interesting. And it's easier to compare the pitches when they have the same starting point. |

In series-premiere news, Foxs On the Lot did not take advantage out of the American Idol lead-in, with 8.97 million viewers (#3) and a 4.1/10 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. (#2). While no one expected the reality/competition to hold the American Idol audience, retention of just 37 percent in viewers and 44 percent among adults 18-49 is disappointing, and a double digit decline in the second half hour is even worse. Take a look:
On the Lot (Fox) 9:00 p.m. Viewers: 11.27 million, A18-49: 5.0/13 9:30 p.m. Viewers: 6.67 million, A18-49: 3.2/ 8 Percent Change Viewers: -41, A18-49: -36 |

The host is that crazy drunken slut Chelsea Handler. I love her comedy but what the hell does she have to do with filmaking?

I thought this would be something that I wouldn't like, and then I found it really interesting. I especially like the judges, and the "tasks" so far.
Quote: and of course we know exactly who that one is. I am waiting for him to fall flat on his ass. I'm not sure about that task where its the 3 of them how the one thinks he can just boss the other 2 around. It's funny like he's already trying to "act" like he thinks someone in Hollywood would act, i.e., pompous asshole. There was a spoiler in the newspaper as well, about "local guy does good," which I threw it away so I don't know what his name was, and I didn't want to remember because it would ruin watching the show sort of, but he's apparently in the last 8. Gonna be interesting if the film school grads do better than those with no film school. And in another season, you're right, they need to change that hostess woman, she sucks. I love Carrie and the directors tho. |

They can't be expecting to fit much in on a half hour show tonight. I'm excited nonetheless though.
I want Hannah to have my babies, Kenny Lubie is a jerk. |
