This was over 10 years ago, maybe longer, I forget, yeah, it was in the 80's. Anyway, I went to the studio. There were about 60 other people there, mostly the Mensa social misfit types, if you get my drift. They gave us this test and gave us 15 minutes to FILL IN THE BLANKS for 50 answers to questions.

Now, that leaves about 20 seconds per answer to fill in and many of the questions were not one word answers. I specifically remember missing the name of the underground places in Rome. I could not remember the word catacomb to save my life.

To make matters worse, this Asian guy was next to me and smoke was actually rising from his pencil, he was writing so fast. This was intimidating to me because it flashed me back to my engineering undergrad days at Purdue when the Asians in the class would blow the curves on each test and the rest of us looked like idiots in comparison. They were remarkable students. Anyway, I digress. Once the test was over, only about 6 people were invited to stay for the stage test, including the guy next to me who was acing the test. We could stay and watch in the audience seats if we wished. I stayed for just a few seconds, but it was boring watching them practice. I don't know if any of those 6 ended on the show.

One of the things that most struck me while there was how the staff was afraid of the host, that conceited guy, forgot his name, maybe Alex Trebeck?. Apparently he was a real bully and the whole staff was afraid of pissing him off.

I came away thinking that IF ONLY the test had been multiple choice, I would have nailed it. To make matters worse, I watched the show every nite after that for a month and got all the answers right before the people on the show did. However, trying out for that show was one of my more humbling moments of my life. Probably everyone there with me all had High IQs, but most of us felt like idiots when we left. Very amusing, actually. Kudos to those here on the board who actually got on the show, wow. I am impressed.

Yeah, I had seen the show, that is why I was surprised the test was SO HARD. Much, Much harder questions (answers) than the show had. But then again, we all need humbling moments in life, that was mine.

I was just coming back to re-edit my edit, I found your answer Okie, yup, it doesn't answer my question, but it was a funny snarky come back. Good job. In case anyone is interested, here is where our laughing smileys are (seriously, what happened?)
