For a mutiny to happen, every single crew member needs to agree to getting rid of the captain (I'm guessing the officers are not included in this, and are also immune from getting a black spot at Pirate's Court). If one person doesn't go through with the mutiny, then it doesn't work. So basically, look for alliances of four to be a bit common. I wonder if they will even call them alliances.

So if they vote out the Captain, they then have to select another. It's an interesting dynamic. I wonder if the captain can voluntarily disperse his winnings.

It's like a cross between the Apprentice and Survivor in terms of voting people out. The search part is kind of like Treasure Hunters.

Of course, since you are getting most of the loot, you will be targeted by others. However, someone has to be chosen as the next captain. Therefore, you will have to be convincing enough to get rid of the existing captain but likeable enough to be chosen for the next. Yet, the balancing act comes in where you yourself don't want to be a goner.

Once the other contestants find out that the captain gets the bulk of the spoils as well as having the power to mark three other contestants for elimination, they will target the captain. It's seems that it is better stategy to stay under the radar, never be captain, and try to be one of the last three that search for the last treasure which is considerably larger than the earlier treasures.

Being the captain is remarkably similar to Head of Household on Big Brother. They get better living accomodations and the power to nominate others for elimination, and Will Kirby's strategy was never to win HOH, which is what you said above, so I think it's very possible that this will happen. The gameplay may in fact be very much like Big Brother with quite a few UTR pirates trying to "float" between the power players. Either way, I'm looking forward to it. I give the art department a lot of credit.

But, I have a question: They're divided into two teams, and each team somehow elects a captain or there is a volunteer, right? Now, do they pick a new captain every episode (ala Apprentice 1-5) or do they maintain the same captain until they lose (ala Apprentice 6). If it is the latter, then mutinies or at least throwing challenges will be much more than likely. This is what MB might have been going for whenever he made the twist for Apprentice LA. Also, if, every week, the losing team or whoever faces the Pirate Court, and the captain must nominate three people excluding their two best mates, isn't this going to run out of time fast? I mean, whenever they reach the final twelve, if there are two teams of six, wouldn't that mean that three people are auto-nominated? So, they'll reduce the nominees to two, or reduce the best mates to one? Oh, and one last thing. How is the mutiny going to work? I think that it would be very interesting if they have to cast the vote for mutiny along with the normal votes. So, whenever you cast your vote, you can cast it for the captain or one of the nominees. Meaning, if the entire team doesn't agree, or if someone was lying, your vote would get voided. I'm sure that we won't have any answers to this until it premieres in late May, but they're things worth thinking about. Looking forward to it.

If the vote has to be unanimous, then the two crew members are automatic allies. Or so you'd think. However, with the gold coins (excellent idea!) you have major bargaining pieces. Plus, allies can bond together to make sure one of their own stays in power. This seems to be MB's way of taking the pirate/pilage idea from Survivor PI and the mutiny idea they wanted from Survivor CI and mashing it together into something that is going to take advantage of the summer's biggest blockbuster. The cast looks edgy-kinda like the people you'd find walking around the Renaissance Festival. The costumes aren't completely crazy yet authentic enough. I think that this show will come down to what all reality shows come down to-EDITING. If there are stories and character depth and good editing, this will be a SMASH.

If the second is the case, why would you ever want to be Captain, if you actually want to win the game. And if I WAS captain, I would use my larger bulk of the earnings to bribe someone every week not to go through with the mutiny. Every Tribal(or whatever it's called), I stay on the ship, said crew member will get their deblums.
