I think FOX tried to start a show like this... it was about "Latin" gangstas, sort of like the Sopranos too, it was called Profit? La Familia? Now I can't really remember the name, it did have this fuckin' gnarly torture scene for a network TV show though. I remember that.
But, this show looks GOOD. I don't know why, it's just, the actors seem credible, the photography is interesting for a TV show and sugar cane is a different take. At least it's more positive then drugs or guns. I'm sure there will be that too somewhere but maybe this show will portray Cuban cultures more positively then other shows have done. |

I was thinking it sounded like Dallas. Which means, when you-know-who you-know-whats, a lot of folks in the US will be using this [fictional] show as their source of factual information, just like a lot of people still think Texas=Southfork.
It does look like a great cast... |

What's the time slot? If it's Tuesday night, 10PM, I give it 5 weeks, tops, before they move it or it goes on "hiatus".
Love Jimmy Smits, love Rita Moreno. Just don't know, considering how poorly CBS does with non-procedurals. |

That's encouraging, Probstfan. You and I seem to have similar tastes in shows, from what I've seen on show threads elsewhere. I have downloaded the pilot, but yet to watch it. We'll see later tonight, I guess.

It's a big, sweeping family drama. A throwback to those great shows from the 80's that you don't really see on TV nowadays. Now everything is either a procedural or a medical drama.
And the look of the show is stunningly beautiful. It must have been filmed on a huge budget. Good to see Lee Tergesen back on the tube. Amusing to see him on a show with Rita Moreno again. Jimmy Smits is a fine hunk of man meat. As always. |

It was sort of like a Cuban version of DALLAS. Not bad.
Loved seeing Lee Tergesen and Polly Walker (aka ATIA from ROME). |

I tried to find it on Torrent but couldn't. I searched under "Cane", "Los Duques" (one of the original names) and Jimmy Smits and it didn't come up. Am I looking in the right place BitTorrent?

Go to Mininova and type "preair" in the search field. That'll bring up CANE and several other leaked pilots/episodes, including DEXTER, WEEDS and BROTHERHOOD.

I hope this show either:
a) Rocks and becomes nu-Dallas b) Fails immediately so TAR can take its place. But I expect it will be mediocre and last until 2008 at least. |
