my only point was the apparent dismissal of an entire incredible episode that so many seem to lord over (not here so much, but else ware... you don't read else ware?) because of some minute detail in a costume or an undergarment. if you want to show me a stony brook cop in 1962, put an actor in a blue uniform with stripes down his pants and some sort of badge over his heart. have him act like an asshole. boom. he's a cop. any cop. that works for me for like the entire fucking 37 seconds that actor is in the scene, setting up the new dynamic between don and peggy.. i watch that scene and am all "ooh! peggy will never see or work with don the same way again! nice..." others are all "ooh! the shoulder patch on the stony brook cop was orange, not the red that was the uniform in 1962 until they officially changed the color to "burnt sienna" in 1973. this show is bullshit!" that's all i was blabbering about... again, i'm not dissing my buds here. i love historical accuracy, its does make mad men my favorite. but with these plot developments, these characters, the subtle nuances of the acting, the varied and interesting direction... typewriters, pantyhose and cop uniforms? madon... |

i'm sure he's tired of this shit, so he tosses in a song that completely works but is not "history channel" perfect.Ugh. See I'm not one of those period piece whiners. I don't care if the show has things happen ahead of time or feature items that weren't invented or the wrong wallpaper as long as they're trying. It was just so lazy to say "I don't give a damn" and put that Decemberists song in there.

Best. episode. ending. EVER.
This episode was just brilliant all around. Crude, drunk, loudmouth Jimmy calling cool, composed, always impeccably professional Don out for being an adulterous man whore. LOVED it. And the whole time when it looked like he was trying to get in Betty's pants, really he just felt empathic towards her knowing that they were both being screwed around on. I still hate that whore Bobbi, but I love her cocky bastard of a husband. And how could you not love Salvatore glancing up lustfully into Cosgrove's eyes as he lit his cigarette?  That whole subplot was great, I was wondering
when they were really going to touch on Salvatore's homosexuality again.
And Joan is so just as intimidated by the new girl as the wannabe Joan bitch is by her. Joan might have more pull around the office, but Jane has another ten years of youth on her and Joan fucking hates it. So many great moments, I can't even recrap them all. |

PIE! yeah, mom's in the bed while you settle back and watch some tv. eh, a small price to pay. i did love the draper family picnic. no silly putty in the new cadillac, betty checking hands before they enter the new cadillac, don chucking the can into that pretty park while betty dumps the contents of the picinic spread on the ground as they left the picnic spot. it reminds me of every "earth day" celebration i have ever attended. lots of love for the earth, lots of trash left strewn about in the wake... plus... "rowww!" cat fight! joanie has a rival! in addition... jimmy garbage calling don garbage garbage! i agree. great ep. and betty puking on herself at the end is perfect... |

They did a great job on Younger Don. What was the blonde all about? i know! what a setup. i forgot about that in all of the excitement. don draper selling used cars in 1950. one fucking scene where blondie exclaims "you are not don draper" and then nothing? i love this show... |

Jimmy is the ultimate Sad Clown. Damn, did he gain dimension today. Seeing Don in the terrible 1952 bad suit and UGLY tie was like getting punched in the stomach! Damn the man has style...not only does he own his own tux, but awhite dinner jacket as well (swoon). |

Fantastic episode last night that encompassed everything!
Seeing the flashback was one of my fave scenes, because I've been wondering how Don could go all this time not being called out as stealing the real Don's identity. I'm guessing the blonde was the real Don's girlfriend, maybe? You would think real Don's family/friends would be looking for him after his return from the war. I can't wait to see more on this. (It was also funny to see Don as a cheesy used car salesman, too.) WOW at Jimmy confronting Don and the way Jimmy broached the subject with Betty. The look on Don's face when Jimmy cut him to the bone by calling him GARBAGE was amazing. Jimmy hit Don right where it hurts him the most. Don is reminded more and more of his past life and he is heading for a breakdown. Betty puking in the pristine car was the best ending ever.
Loved all the Salvatore storyline finally picking up speed and us viewers getting to see more into his life. Poor Kitty, indeed. What a rough life. Yeah, you may have to forego some hot & steamy sex, but what a great way to live. Now I have to root for Ken to realize HE is in the closet and he will start an illicit affair with Sal. Ken could be overcompensating by actively pursuing women. He is a bachelor all by his lonesome self. Go get him, Sal! At first when I was watching the "picnic scene" I was thinking "What is the point of this?" Then Dan chucks the can and THEN Betty shakes out the picnic blanket leaving all that trash on the pristine grass. I was waiting for the crying Indian from all those commercials I remember as a kid in the 70s. Great scene. Finally, TEAM JOAN!! I don't think Joan started out wanting to hate the new girl, but just quickly saw the new girl as shrewd, disrespectful towards her (Joan) and a major threat. Joan rules the secretarial pool and can't have new girl disrespecting her. Joan was completely right for firing her for sneaking into Cooper's office. That took a lot of nerve and if she would do that, what else would she do? Stupid Roger, of course, is lead by his dick and not his brain by buying into new girl's game. She wouldn't give Roger the time of day until she was fired and Roger is now at her beck and call. JOAN WILL PREVAIL!! I cannot wait to see the eventual total destruction of new girl. |

I don't know if Joan will prevail ... for me, the new girl is the new 60's version of Joan. I think this is Joan's new reality as an older married
office manager ... there will always be younger girls now. She will have to adapt like someone probably had to adapt when she arrived.
The 50's vs. 60's theme continues for me ... with main characters like Don, Joan, Peggy, Betty, Sal and Pete rooted in the past and the minor/new characters, like Paul, the young creatives, Jane, Harry's wife, and Bobbi all having a more 60's mentality about age/generations, sex, gender roles, etc. I think Don will just continue to struggle more and more as the world changes and he doesn't. We're already seeing him becoming less relevant, as he presents ideas he had little to do with created by younger creatives to Playtex and now coffee. He seems like more of a mouthpiece than a great thinker this season, whereas last season he had his Carousel moment. He's now being moved into the Roger/Cooper role of being a face of the agency to win new business, rather than the driving force behind the work.
