I had seen something about this a couple months back and was going to post about it, but VH1 had hardly ANY info on it. They finally have the webpage up and running. Oh and be sure to put this thread link in the stickied thread at the top.
Linkie VH1 and Entertainment Weekly are putting the country's pop culture savvy to the test with the new original series "The World Series of Pop Culture," presented by Alltel Wireless. From the executive producer of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," "The World Series of Pop Culture" is the ultimate pop culture tournament designed for teams to show off their astounding range of knowledge about everything music, television and film. Hosted by NY1 News anchor Pat Kiernan and Inside Edition correspondent Lisa Guerrero, "The World Series of Pop Culture" premieres on VH1 July 10th at 10pm ET. New episodes air July 10th through 14th at 10pm ET, with the competition continuing the following weeks on Thursdays at 10pm ET, beginning July 20th. |

For some reason, VH1 just aired an episode and I caught the last 30 minutes. I think they'll repeat this one tomorrow at 10, when it's supposedly the premiere episode.
I liked the set-up of it and will definitely enjoy this show. There is a new episode every night this week, narrowing the teams down to the finals. Looking forward to it! |

They do this all the time on VH1. When a new episode is supposed to premiere that night, they'll show it the morning/afternoon of that day or the day before.

Which explains why my TIVO was taping the Surreal Life on Saturdays, when I had it set to First Run only.
Cweepy. |

I saw a large portion of this today, and the majority of the questions were ridiculously easy for any over the age of 25 or so, maybe even younger. The format was okay, they just need o up the difficulty level a bit.

^I tried out for the show with 2 friends, and the questions they asked us in the last-chance, online quiz for a wildcard team were insanely *difficult*.
From what I've heard on an NYC radio station that was doing a promo for the show, the questions do get harder as they whittle down the number of teams. |

The questions were ridiculously easy; I rattled off the answers to all but two of the questions even before the host finished reading.
I even wrote down 10 correct of the 14 pt tiebreaker before getting one wrong - but in fairness that topic is a specialty of mine. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that the later questions will emphasis less about "real trivia" and more about "who gives a fuck" minutia that either you know immediately or you don't. That is gonna make the show much less fun to watch.... |

I remember when Millionaire had pop culture week. I was like "This shit is gonna be so easy". And yeah, up to about 16K the questions were easy, to pop culture nerds like many of us. But then it got tougher and more challenging. So I definitely look forward to the tougher questions.

I like how they showed a teaser for episode 2 before episode 1 finished airing, thereby spoiling the end of episode 1. Regardless, this is a really fun show. It reminds me of Beat the Geeks.

^I laughed at that too. It was like, "so much for building the suspense of finding out if 3 The Hard Way makes it, by them giving it away in the promo for tomorrow night."

My husband pointed out that commercial for tomorrow's show with the outcome of tonight's on it...it went right over my head.
I really liked the show, though. Right up my alley. |

Yeah I notice that more and more networks are spoiling their shows like that. It's really annoying.
But anyway, I really liked it. Glad 3 the Hard Way didn't make it. The women's attitude was kinda bitchy, and the fat guy was too obnoxious. |

I loved the lady who answered the Cosby show question about the name Rudy called her friend...how she said it when she answered..."Buuuuuud" just like on the show. She seemed to have a pretty funny sense of humor.
