I'm not objective, because I never miss his show, but I
agree that he's more fun since becoming a daddy. he's letting us "know" him a bit better. |

He has always been funny. He makes Leno look like shit.

This is all hard evidence that the Nielsens are seriously fucked up. Every time this board has this conversation it's a 100% skew toward Letterman. Everyone I know prefers Letterman. If everyone watches Letterman, why does Leno beat him every night?

Quote: It's all a part of his humor. And regarding the Leno/Letterman debate, it IS weird how Leno beats Letterman in the ratings. I once heard some so-called expert being interviewed about how ratings for those two shows are impacted by their relationship to the newscast that precedes them. If someone is watching NBC news at 10:00, Leno will often stay on; and if someone is watching CBS, they'll leave on Letterman. While I know that if I watch NBC news, I'll pick up the remote and switch to Letterman, it's easy to believe that others won't and will just accept whatever is on. |

Re: David Letterman | ||

The average idiot still thinks of Dave as an obnoxious oaf with sophomoric humor. Of course, people with a brain think the same thing and love him for it.
The same idiots without brains don't want Dave talking down to the Chers and the Shirley MacLaine's of the world - they want the host to fawn over them treating them as demi-gods. That's why Arsenio became successful - "you're so great, let's give it up again for you....woof....woof....woof." Leno is the same. Leno doesn't know shit about the guest - he's too busy worrying about his monologue jokes or where he's going to perform that weekend (to his credit, he does get out and perform). Leno knows what his writers tell him to know and he just fawns over people and "oh, you're so great and you're movie is wonderful and I just love you." People are star driven - how else do you explain Britney Spears? That's why they watch Leno - to see the stars. Dave, on the other hand, is in New York, so the stars only come when they have to make the New York rounds. Dave would have much frequent A List guests if he were in LA, and almost went to LA in 1996 or 1997. Dave is the star and people watch to see how Dave the star treats the guests. If anyone needed proof of who is really better, I think the Emmy's speak for themselves. However, assclown Leno continues to win the ratings war and alot of that is, in part, to NBC's stronger 10 PM shows and consistent late night news ratings in the major markets. The good news for Dave fans is that I really do believe that Dave doesn't care about the ratings. Dave just wants to do a good show. Yes, being a daddy has changed him - you can see it. Now, even the celebs are warming back up to him - even though Madonna was acting kind of annoyed that she had to be in New York, she was there. Howard was there. And don't forget the Oprah gift. Me senses a thawing and wouldn't be surprised to see Oprah making a visit in the not to distant future. Try as hard as he will, Leno will not find anyone to be his Rupert Jee. Rupert is God. Finally, I'm having troubles doing some advance Christmas shopping. I've searched all the local toy stores and even the internet, but I can't find the "home version" of "Will It Float?" Has anyone seen it where they live? |

FWIW: Dakota Fanning was awesome on the show yesterday. She's very bright and has a great sense of humor. Her laugh was unreal, what a doll !!!

To really respect Dave for what he does...watch when he gets the chance to interview guys like Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, and Walter Kronkite.
I never miss those. Great combination of serious interviewing and comedy. |

Re: David Letterman | ||

Dave has always been the best. He IS sophmoric and I think that's why a lot of people love him. When he needs to, though, he rises to the occasion, like he did on his first show after 9/11.
I didn't see the Jessica Lynch show but I'm sure that was handled very well too. Agreeance, Dakota Fanning was great! What a fun, smart little girl. Dave is at his best with the kids. Remember when he'd just sit with a bunch of them and talk? Hysterical. Sorry to ramble, but I LOVE DAVE!!! All Jay Leno has is "headlines" and "jaywalking." And headlines is ripped off from Dave! |

Holy shit. I can't believe it. You people have restored my faith in humanity. I thought this was going to be another rip on Letterman thread. I read those OT and Sucks boards and all people do is rip on him. People just don't get him. Leno is a fucking hack. Just name one thing that Leno has done that is original. He steals all his shit from Letterman. I knew when I saw Lettermans morning show, when I was a little kid, that this guy is a genius.

I love you all! Group Hug!
I've watched Dave since Day One on NBC. I love that he's cranky and sarcastic. I love that he's rarely impressed by the big stars and busts their balls at times. Those that have a sense of humor can take it anyway. I agree with the poster above - when he has the news anchors on he's amazing. You can tell he's informed about world affairs and it interests him greatly - Pat and Kenny aren't writing the questions for him Also mentioned above - I do wish he'd do stuff with kids like he used to - he kicked ass with that! Remember he used to go to people's houses in NJ? And the time he took Richard Simmons out to get a new wardrobe? HAHA! |

Count me in - I love Dave! When I got my DVR, the first thing I did was to program it to record every episode of Letterman. Now I don't have to struggle to stay awake, I can watch it any time.
I think everybody summed it up here pretty well - Dave is not an ass-kisser, he's totally real. |

Re: David Letterman | ||
Quote: I think part of it is he likes to keep his private life somewhat private. It meant alot to him to share his son's name with everyone since the "the boy" is named after Dave's father. But he keeps his relationship with Regina pretty quiet. When Howard Stern mentioned her full name Dave cringed and kinda laughing said "don't say her name"...or words to that effect. ...and you're right...it's all part of his humour. Love him! |
