It's probably the first show to make a drug dealer likeable and stays away from condemning her character.

Weed is mainstream to college kids and hippies. The rest of America isn't as quite as onboard as you think. I'm sure half of America still thinks all weed smokers belong in jail.

I'm not a college kid or a hippy, so where does that leave me?

A big part of the show is that you basically have a WASP who's a drug dealer in an upper class white neighborhood. For many people, smoking weed is a little wilder than buying neapolitan ice cream (as opposed to vanilla), but the premise makes this show interesting and unusual.

Killa, then you're one of those regular old joe pot smokers like Kevin Nealon and his crew.

Some funny-ass lines this past week.
Uncle (Andy) to Silas about his sex with the girl who had a baby arm, "my dick looked so huge when she held it" The pot dealer talking up pilates and his instructor, whose ass "was just like a peach, I could take a bite" This show does make me laugh. |

I just enjo the scenes between the chubby girl, Isabelle and her mother. Especially this weeks when the mom switched her chocolate stash with an laxitive. Then how the girl got her back.

I enjoy this show, but I have to agree with Killa. I find it hard to believe that there is a weed shop, even in California, where you can walk in and pick stuff out like its a Yankee Candle.
Also, these bakeries....where are they?? I smoke for relaxation, after work and on the weekends. I have been doing this for 31 years. When I started out as a 13 year old, it was a completely different high. Remember when everything made you laugh? After a while, that wears off and the affect is more like a valium. I am able to keep my job, haven't gone onto cocaine or heroin, I'm not homeless and my memory works just fine, thank you. I am completely mainstream, by all appearances. Weed, it isn't just for kids..... The way Kevin Nealon's character acts is kind of over the top. To make this make sense to me, I imagine that he only recently took up smoking again, reliving his college days. Did they ever explain why Mary Louise Parker sells weed? I know its because she needs the money, but does her character smoke? |

I love the show but didn't dig the last episode much - thought the brother charactor was totally contrived and didn't ring true....maybe that's just me.

He was a little over the top. My boyfriend thought he was hilarious. I thought the cyber sex with the 15 year old was a bad idea.
This last episode was missing some Elizabeth Perkins. She wasn't really in the episode, except for the announcement that she had cancer. Why all the exploding coke bottles? Is there some significance in that or does Coca Cola produce this show? |

I thought it was a Donnie Darko-type moment.

So Celia was just there at the end, eh? I missed the first few moments and thought I had missed the big set up - that's the first we knew?

Yeah, the show began and ended with her being silent in her bathroom.
I thought of Donnie Darko, too. |

It all sounds so easy, and I do find that hard to believe in Bush's America.
Exactly how is everyone getting the right paperwork? They never showed her getting a prescription did they? |

Re: Weeds on Showtime | ||

I guess it boils down to state vs. federal laws, really. Federal laws say "NO", California state laws say "ok, if you have right paperwork and if you obtain the ganja (erm, medicine) at these types of places...."... Federal will win, no doubt, but right now Cali does issue the paperwork(via a doctor).
If she's going into a "clinic" then she prob'ly has the paperwork. |

This is a fictional comedy we're talking about here, not some documentary airing on A&E. There's room for error.

Quote: I *think* that is why they may have written my *die to fuck him* Justin Kirk character so over the top and diabiolcal...to appease those red staters who believe all pot smokers are abhorrent individuals. I DO think they wrote Justin's role wayyyyyy over the top.but he is so gorgeous..I don't care. :) ETA: Loved the morning woody and wifey swatting at it. Pissed my panties laughing! |
