Ruth wakes up to the reality of her relationship with Nikolai and quits her job at the flower shop, while Claire's art school interview turns out differently than she'd hoped. Things between Keith and David grow tense in the wake of Keith's career woes. Brenda attempts to deal with her true nature, making her future with Nate even more of a question mark. When Nate decides the time has finally come to take action regarding his AVM, Ruth, David and Claire discover a family intimacy they never knew they had." Doesn't sound like my favorite wackjob Brenda will figure very much in this episode. Oh, well, there are plenty more to choose from.

But I agree they've probably run out of over-the-top things for her to do for now, and should cut back a little. Let her get better for much of the season, with the possibility of a relapse just over the horizon ...?

I actually liked the lighter mood of this episode...even though the beginning threw me for a loop... And Catherine O'Hara annoyed the shit outta me!

After a brilliant two seasons, an excellent second season finale, a loooooooooooooong hiatus... and this was what I was all excited about? In fact, I was hoping that the whole scenario between Nate and Lili Taylor's character would turn out to be a dream. Unfortunately, I was wrong. I hope this doesn't go the way of the past season of The Sopranos and become a long-winded dark and miserable borefest. Sum it all down to third season doldrums, this show was definitely beyond the piss-poor material of tonight's episode. None of it really even seemed remotely connected to the stuff that happened at the end of last season. The storyline between Keith and David... the show's most interesting characters are now reduced to two boring bickering schmoes seeking advice from a couples counselor, the typical cliche for the modern gay couple. Ever since Ruth left Nikolai and the flower shop, she's been reduced to two-minute walk-on roles where she's only there to piss someone off or nurse Nate's baby. And for God's sakes, bring back Brenda ASAP. I could watch an entire episode based on her and her loony tunes family. The next episode had BETTER pick up steam. I feel sorry for anyone who may have chosen tonight's episode to be the episode to introduce them to this wonderful series... because I doubt they'll be back next week.

I rented the first disc to SEASON 1 this weekend and I was hooked, so I decided to get started on season 3 (rather than wait another 5 years for it to come out on DVD). I've only seen a total of four episodes, so I'm not qualified to comment on how good yesterday's episode was or wasn't. I just know between me and the VCR, one of us will be there next Sunday at 8pm central.

The whole time I was thinking "Please be a dream, please be a dream, please be a dream" Maybe it still will be........ The only thing that could redeem this season for me would be a full frontall from J P Pitoc. Maybe he could pose for one of Claires art classes.

I also kept waiting to find out that they were only f**king with us and that Lilly-what's-her-character's-name-again and Nate weren't really together and it was all a dream. I love Catherine O'Hara, but she also bugged me. I think Nate will be out of the situation soon enough, probably with baby in tow (sans Mommy). David and Keith are yawners now, too. And a plotline about joining GMC? Puh-lease, get more creative, folks!

Now he's got a fucking baby and wife in tow, it's like he's living out the exact life his character spent the past two seasons rebelling against. Frederico has now been reduced to a miserable little wretch who spends his moments on-screen griping about something or other with regards to his new 'partner' status in the business. And what is with Claire? Does she have to fucking lay every single guy she comes into contact with? Christ, Brenda did that last season - do we really need a rehash of it all over again? Catherine O'Hara? When has she NOT played an eccentric over-the-top nutbag in recent years? She doesn't even have to phone these roles in anymore, they're so typical of her. I'm really missing Brenda and her family... the only characters who could probably step in and turn this whole mess back around the right way.

I hope she gets a chance with that guidance councelor of hers from last year. Maybe he could pop back in her life. He was yummy. And just how is she supposed to turn down JP Pitock? I wouldn't be able to. I want to see him NAKED! Otherwise agree with the prevailing sentiment. This show is going in the wrong direction.

Both "Oz" and "The Sopranos" were/are desperately on their last legs creatively. I can't complain about the acting, there is no issue there, it always has been and still remains strong. Unfortunately, it seems as if the writers either stumble upon a block or go away on a vacation, never to return. The third-season premiere episode for "Six Feet Under" is something I would expect, say maybe after five seasons. The show is so young in its run, there is no need for the episodes to be as dull and lifeless as the third season opener. It was not just the lack of character structure and piss-poor storytelling, but it was almost as if all the hard work the past two seasons spent building the characters were suddenly put into reverse gear, taking a huge step back into the dark ages for everyone concerned. I still can't buy the storyline involving Nate and Lili Taylor's character. It's too ridiculous for words.

Also, just to add...who the hell cares if the baby got peanut butter ...sniffing the damn jumper!! Then Nate and the whole "family bed" affair. Those two scenes truly made me want to throw something at the TV.

On another note, as crappy as this first episode was, they really had me going the first 10 minutes thinking Nate was dead - a very powerful way to start off the season, in my opinion.....too bad after the first 10 minutes it tapered off into shit....

Brenda is coming back in Episode 5 and of course she'll shake Nate out of his boring life. He just had brain surgery, and it's obvious that when he recovered, he was so happy to be alive that he took the easy road and married this stupid chick because of the baby. They made a point to tell us that he sold his motorcycle, that he needs to get to work on time or Frederico will yell at him, that his mother takes care of the baby, that his wife has a demanding boss - just to show us what a safe BUT SHITTY life he is living. The sniffing of the peanut butter was just further proof that his wife is such a PINHEAD and yells at a woman who is doing so much for them. And it was also to show that the mother raised 3 kids perfectly fine without worrying about peanut butter and allergies. Ruth's life is boring as hell too (she was sitting on that bench and looked miserable), but Kathy Bates is coming next episode and she'll stir things up for Ruth. David and Keith's life is so boring that they have to go to counselling to deal with how boring it is. So just relax everyone - I have faith that it will get better !!!
