Why VM would have a great chance at doing well at the box office as opposed to a Serenity or an X-Files is simply put, the budget. A
Mars film would require no more then a 10 million dollar budget. If all two million of the fanbase was to see the film once, we are already half way
to breaking even - go twice and we have made it. Serenity cost right around the area of 30 million and I believe the X-Files was even more.
Steep mountains to climb. With VM, not so much.
Also, as mentioned, the fact that this was a poorly promoted TV show doesn't even have to come into the equation. Murder mysteries sell. Love stories sell.
Great acting sells. A VM movie would have and accomplish all three. And the fact that S3 drove a wedge between LoVe-ers and haters, really doesn't even
come into the equation. A new audience would not care or know about any of that. With the right promotion, they would be able to see the very best of what made
VM work and hopefully would shell out the cash to go see it.
Joel Silver is one of the bigger players in Hollywood. If he believes in this film and the fact it can do well, it will be made. The Weinstein Company (Kevin
Smith's boys) or as I may have mentioned before, WWE Studios (yes, the wrestling company) would be vaild distributors to look into. K. Bell is becoming
more and more known by the masses, and not suprisingly, drawing a nice following. Every piece of press I read has her as one of the few saving graces of S2 and
S3 of Heroes, not the other way around.
With a star on the rise at the forefront, a reasonable (in many areas) budget, the right promotion, one of the best casts I have ever seen assembled, and a big
time player in the business - this film is a legit possibility. No doubt.
