It doesn't help that 65% of Cortese's face is taken up by her lips. God. I'll continue to despise Ruby this season though until they clear up the Sam/Ruby shit. Writers...NOW. -.- But I loved this episode. I watch the show for the Sam/Dean interactions and this episode was teeming with it. Once again, Jensen Ackles was stellar, especially in the hotel scene. I am trying so hard to adore both actors, but Jared falls flat sometimes. I think if he wasn't acting opposite such a great actor, I wouldn't notice. But the crying stuff in the motel was kinda like every time he ever cries. I enjoy far more when he is comedic, even though Jared Padalecki says he has more trouble with comedic stuff. Weird, huh? MOTW episodes are the bread and butter of the Supernatural world. And they're necessary, because the writer's oftentimes do so well of mirroring what's going on in Sam/Dean's relationship with what's going on in the case. And when they don't? Then, I whine about MOTW. But it has been a long time since they didn't have one that moved along the overall storyline (not just the mytharc, but their relationship as well.) A lot of the people at IMDB are saying this episode was a disappointment, but consider the fact that last week's episode was probably one of the most fulfilling episodes they've ever had, in terms of questions answered, curiosities explained, and such. So, of course it's gonna feel underwhelming comparatively. But overall, this episode was necessary, did exactly what it was meant to do, and did it with flare. :P The humor in the episode was great. "Sam loves to research. He does. He keeps it under his matters right next to his KY. It's a sickness" Hehe...Dean and the sexual puns love <3. As for the ratings...3.14 million / 1.4/4 in the 18-49 demo. A slight drop, but still very solid. Adjusted to total viewers watching TV this season as compared to the last two, it's still one of the top ranked ones (not including 4x01,4x02,4x03). Behind just 2x01 and 2x03. But, with unadjusted, it's still a good number. As long as we stay over 3 million, I'm confident that it'll come back for Season 5 -- barring any hormonal mood swings from Demon O.

That's exactly what I was trying to say! the MOTW episodes keep the show accessible to new viewers in general, because even if you're not watching every week you can kind of drop in and still have a good viewing experience. Like watching a mini-horror movie. (I noticed last night that lot of the camera work is done well, too.) And even though the MOTW episodes are good for casual viewers, I rarely, if ever, feel like they're just filler - like you said, they still move the story along. As far as ratings, this week they were up against the much higher profile The Office, which is a show I feel gets inordinately high praise, considering its inconsistent quality. The Office has been Emmy nominated and it a staple of Must See TV, while Supernatural hardly gets any promotion, so a mere slight drop in ratings is pretty encouraging in my eyes. I hope the network sees it that way also. There have been a lot of shows I loved cancelled over the last couple years, like Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Journeyman - and if they took away Supernatural I would be crushed. I feel like it's not even getting the same critical praise VM and AD got, so they're at a greater disadvantage. (I don't see any critical analysis in general on it, period.) This show just fills a certain niche one of my other regular TV viewing does.

I agree that anything may pale in comparison to the week before as it was a stand-out show. I agree that 'Dean' is much better when he's sarcastic and comedic but, they have to show his vulnerable side around Sam when the story-line demands it. The whole storyline with Sam trying to keep people 'alive' even after they are possessed/bring them back was great re: his battling the demon blood inside of him. I thought it was written well. Love the carnivore! My sister eats hamburger meat that way...should I be concerned?

Concerned for her health because that's nasty. If she eats ground meat that's been cooked that way...then buy her a copy of Emily Post and give her a helpful hint that way.

Tie the person up, wait until they wake up, then explain why they need to be killed. Which, of couse, provides the opportunity for escape. Dean & Sammy didn't know about the pregnant wife, did they.

The juxtaposition of him saving others to save himself is very well done. Who was this Travis? Had we seen him before? Will -- during the first season, I thought this show was just one of the good shows on TV. Now, I think it's my favorite. MOTW eps in this series have never bugged me. They seem to have an endless well of ffukers to chase, and freshly thought out ones at that. "A rugaroo -- sounds like it's made up, but it isn't." Anyhow, didn't last week's preview have the forthcoming black & white fun ep as this week's? Is the CW showing eps out of order to mess with Kripke?

No. They clearly knew who he was from their past, but as it was revealed during the episode, it had been well over ten years since they had seen him. Will -- during the first season, I thought this show was just one of the good shows on TV. Now, I think it's my favorite. Mine too! Best show on TV. Anyhow, didn't last week's preview have the forthcoming black & white fun ep as this week's? Is the CW showing eps out of order to mess with Kripke? The CW isn't doing that, no. Kripke decided to switch 4x05 and 4x04. So...what we saw as 4x04 was really produced as 4x05. Or...actually wait, no... 4x05 was produced as 4x03. Then 4x03 as 4x04. Then 4x04 as 4x05. The monster movie episode was apparently supposed to be really early but they switched it around, which leads me to believe we'll have very little development of the Sam/Dean plot, unless they shot some scenes after the fact. I think that's what happened anyway. But no, the CW didn't do this. Kripke would throw a fit if they did something like this. As Whedon should have done for Firefly.

I've never seen Veronica Mars? I do hope that Supernatural keeps going strong. I was talking with my boss who got me hooked. He was very excited that I loved the show and we both agree that 'the brothers' are the core to the show...not 'one brother' but the two of them playing off one another ...then add the various 'creepy/yet delicious' stories.

No, but you can get more emotionally involved in the characters stories if they last for more than a few hours. That being said, I'm not gonna be pushy and keep repeating how good it is. If you watch, you'll see for yourself.

PARTICULARLY the "Blair Witch" style one where the camera is all shaky for the entire episode. So. Goddamn. Annoying. I hate the Ghostfacers in general. They add nothing to the story and I don't tune into a drama to see comedy, so, nothing there works for me. Never show them again kthxbai.

Posts: 1954 (10/12/08 10:15 AM) Registered User Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	The Ghostfacers episode was hit and miss, but I did find it sweet that it was gay love that saved the day. :-D On the other hand, the two openly gay characters have both suffered pretty violent deaths. The girl in AHBL Part 1 who is hanging from that thing and then the guy in Ghostfacers. http://www.sfuniverse.com.../a-supernatural-surprise/ So apparently, at the end of the October 23rd episode, there's going to be a "fan surprise." That was the first clue...which is 10 shades of awesome. Some guesses floating around are a compilation CD (thus Dean rocking out to Eye of the Tiger), a potential gag reel, which...I don't really care about since we get those on the DVD sets anyway, a confirmation about a return of a character? John Winchester has been mentioned as well as the Ghostfacers bunch (it has been said by Kripke that they'll be back...). Also...it's possible that it's a confirmation of an "extended" season. Gossip Girl was going to get "more episodes" to make up for the Writer's Strike, and they ended up with 20. With SPN only having 16, it's far more likely. I particularly like this option, but the downside is that the episodes that they took off in Season 3 would have just fleshed out the plot more. Will they fumble with more time? Short answer: NO since they can't fumble at anything :P but just something to think about. ETA: I just saw this... Yes Raw (add bagged dry dogfood - happy to say this is a step-sister or I'd REALLY BE ASHAMED..and she won't listen to reason. She is 'a demon'. Um...that's crazy. For those not having watched Veronica Mars -- he's right, though. The first season was one of the best seasons of anything ever aired. The later seasons not so much. Those two guys from Hell House? Who were like geeks who loved SPN stuff and filmed their documentaries? Then, in season 3, they were the "Ghostfacers" with three more team members (one of which died during the episode.)

Jason Dohring = Logan I think VM was a great show.... for the first season and maybe part of the second. The writing and dialogue was generally excellent, but I thought some of the storylines were convoluted and the last season kind of sucked sometimes. So personally I would even rank SPN over VM at this point. But hell, in a perfect world, both of them would still be on TV bringing in big numbers. Ghostfacers was one of my favorite episodes. I love that Supernatural isn't afraid to take risks and do episodes like that, and it's also a testament to their creativity and writing skills that they're able to inject humor into the series so easily next to al the sci fi stuff without it going horribly wrong. I know some people didn't like that episode but for me it epitomized why I love it. They are able to laugh at themselves while still producing compelling TV.
