I saw the pilot a few weeks ago, and I must say, it was damn good. Initially, I wasn't interested in the show--especially when I found out it was temporarily taking over Alias' timeslot in the fall. Then I gave it a shot and was impressed. It's got its merits. The show's tone is quirky, but not overly so, the characters aren't despicable or annoying, and the ending definitely had me intrigued.
Did you hear that Sheryl Lee's off the show? The pilot will probably be retooled a bit, which is a shame. I liked her in her role. Her narration was well done. In any case, Desperate Housewives is another one of the shows I'm looking forward to on ABC. (The other, of course, is Lost). |

I'm about to watch Lost. Is it unique?

Quote: Unique? I'd say so, but it depends what you've seen before. Is it good? A thousand times, yes! Even ebtter than DH, which says a lot because DH is already good TV. |

I was talking about DH, but I've heard good things about Lost too.
So is DH unique? |

Well, it depends on what you've seen before. I'd say it's "unique" in the current TV landscape. There's no show on right now that's like it, though I think it could potentially turn into Melrose Place.

^are you my psychic friend?
Ain't It Cool News posted reviews of three of the new ABC dramas. The outlook for Desperate Houswives is good, Lost is bad, and Life as We Know It is okay. I'm happy that early buzz on Desperate Housewives is good, mainly because of the fact that ABC is denying me my Alias until January. Here's a teaser from ABC's site: Looking down on her friends and family isn't a way of life for Mary Alice Scott. It's a way of death. One day, in her perfect house, in the loveliest of suburbs, Mary Alice ended it all. Now she's taking us into the lives of her family, friends and neighbors, commenting from her elevated POV. Her husband's acting suspicious, the neighbors are talking, and her girlfriends are wondering why one of their own would do something so rashÂ… and so messy. Ain't It Cool News Review excerpt: The pilot reminds me of a mix between something in the vein of American Beauty and Twin Peaks minus the midgets, giants and other oddities. The pilot begins with Sheryl Lee killing herself (again, Sheryl is dead in the first episode just like Twin Peaks), she narrates the rest of the episode which follows the other "Housewives" around the town during her funeral and the week or so afterwards. The wives are stereotypical; one is a single mother, one married for money and cheating with the gardener, another wants to be Donna Reed and thinks she has the perfect marriage and one had a high profile job and quit to have a never ending stream of kids (which she seems to regret). At face value I would have blown this show off and never given it the chance, but it truly is the gem of ABC's fall lineup. One would think a show surrounding a funeral would be quite morose, but the cast and writers bring an air of quirkiness that I haven't seen in a long time. |

Oh hell! Three (well... two) more cast changes to the show. Go here.
Brenda Strong? Keep her on Everwood! They should have kept Sheryl Lee. I guess I'll see which I like better in the fall. Steven Culp? I like Doug Savant. This casting sucks! Jesse Metcalfe? Hmm... he's yummy, but his acting is not better--and is probably worse--than the guy who originally played the gardener in the pilot. |

I was reading the 'Lost' thread and it got me thinking of Desperate Housewives.
These are two shows I've had on my hard drive for months but I can't bring myself to watch them. Why? Because I hear they are good - and they are on ABC. ABC simply does not do good TV. It hasn't since the early 90's when Iger killed Young Riders, Thirtysomething, Young Indy, Twin Peaks, China Beach, Homefront, etc. (Bob Iger IS as bad as Gail Berman). So now I am at a crossroads. Do I watch these two pilots and register www.savelost.com and www.savedesperatehousewives.org and wait for the DVD of the unaired eps - or do I ignore these shows altogether? |

Looking forward to this series. Thought it would get dissed by critics and co. (its title makes it sound like some sort of cheesy, Lifetime tv-movie of the week program) but so far, everything that I have read about it have been great. Sucks that Sheryl Lee got cut off the show, though. Still...
Felicity Huffman Teri Hatcher Marcia Cross Nicolette Sheridan ....WHAT AN AWESOME CAST! Hope Marcia's character gets all Kimberly on their asses! |

Quote: What about Once and Again, which ran from 1999-2002? *weeps* ABC actually seems to have a knack for finding/doing really great shows. What they don't do is keep them around. Like I said in the Lost thread--watch the pilots! Quote: I love her when she's gets all psycho; here's to hoping! So far, though, her character Bree reminds me of Betsy--Kimberly's straight-laced, tupperware-selling split personality. |

I know nothing about this show. However, over the past couple weeks, I've seen billboards for it popping up all over the place. On the one-sheets I've seen, Teri Hatcher, while still retaining a bit of her striking beauty, looks worn out, a little haggard, and well, just plain old.
Is this because she's playing dead on the show, or because she really is worn out, a little haggard, and well, just plain old? |

Re: Teri Hatcher | ||

She's definitely worn out. She's not playing a dead character on the show...

MARCIA CROSS is my reason for watching this show as well.
JESSE METCALF from PASSIONS?!??!?! WHY, DEAR GOD, WHY??!?!?!?!???!?!? He couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. But, I must find solace in the fact that he replaced that asshole Kyle from "Moolah Beach." |

Re: Teri Hatcher | ||

^ The previous gardner (I assume he was this "Kyle" from Moolah Beach of whom you speak) was definitely worse. Metcalfe is at least great eye candy.
