I haven't read one bad review yet. USA Today gave it 4 stars. I hope the hype is worth it. I think it will be.

Just watched and enjoyed the debut episode.
There were some good laughs and good writing. Huffman, Cross and Hatcher were solid. I especially liked the vibe between Hatcher and her daughter, which was a tad Gilmore Girlish but with more of an edge. The subplot with Eva Longhoria and Jesse Metcalfe needs some better writing or it will just become cheesy. They add a bit of youthful spice (and skin) to the show but don't have much to say or do that's very funny. I guess these scenes were part of a re-shoot since Metcalfe was a replacement for someone else, maybe with a bit more work their situation could prove ripe for some of the attititude-filled dialogue that makes the scenes with Hatcher and her daughter work. James Denton, who lives on the street undercover as a plumber, adds an element of mystery, as does the suicide of the narrator. The mystery thing they're developing is OK but I hope they keep the humor in the forground and the drama on the back burner. I'll watch it again next week. The show has lots of potential. It will live or die depending on smart writing. |

Ditto Tuna-Surprise: (nice-pseud) !!!
I caught all the Sienfeld references. I LOVED Sports Night. (Dana & Sally)? Terri Hatcher (kinda) went "down-hill" w/ all those Radio Shack commercials (w/ Howie Long) but she's still good eye-candy... {and BTW I'm GAY; so that's gotta mean something}... Marcia~Marcia~Marcia ! Wasn't that Latino chick on Y & R ? She was hooking-up w/ Paul when he & Christine were on the outs. They had a baby ~~~> RICKY (i think)... Wah~Happen ??? Pizza in the oven. Bourbon On the Rocks. & a BLUNT rolled (justin case)... Gee Jay. |

Marcia Cross is a genius, a fucking genius.

Have I finally found something to fill the void left by MELROSE PLACE?
Loving it so far. I used to live for Dr. Kimberly Shaw, now I pledge allegiance to Bree Van De Kemp. |

What the hell is this bullshit about ABC having good shows? This doesn't make sense at all. Next thing, NBC'll start to suck. Wait, it already does.

I'm enjoying it as well. however, am I being too nitpicky in thinking it's a bit too predictable? Oh no, plumber's coming over now -- you knew immediately Lois Lane was going to go make a quickie clog. And as soon as La Adulteria slipped the $20 to the waiter, you knew she was off to mow the lawn in her couture. Maybe it just felt that familiar because of all the commercials leading up to the premiere.

10 more minutes and I don't want it to end, it's THAT good. "Bree sobbed silently in the bathroom but her husband never knew. Because when she entered the room...she was perfect." Even though Marcia was on Everwood...this is the return of Marcia Cross. I've missed her greatly. What a phenomenal cast and the writing is smart, witty, and brilliant. This show must take off.

That was really exceptional. The writing was just so damn sharp, and all of the female leads were really incredible. Hatcher's performance in this thing really does make you forget all of those Radio Shack commercials - she was just that good. Eva Longoria, so damned hot. Felicity Huffman, excellent as always. I'd hate to single one of the women out for being the best, but Marcia Cross - just, wow. The scenes at the Van de Kamp dinner table and the rodeo restaurant were absolutely hilarious!
I'm liking it so far, and yes - what the hell is up with ABC this year? First "Lost" now this??? Two excellent dramas, and I predict this will be a hit just like the other. Anyone else all ready thinking how the Emmys will play out for these ladies? Let the claws come out! |

Re: Desperate Housewives | ||

Great show!
Two things I hope improve in coming episodes: 1) More interaction in storylines between the housewives. It was probably deliberate just for the pilot, but it felt disjointed at times. 2) Better blending of comedy, drama, mystery, etc. Probably just something to get used to though, since this show has it all. With the advent of reality shows and the general crappiness of dramas, I haven't kept watching a new drama series (except for spinoffs of L&O) in years, and ABC will finally break that with not 1, but 2 shows...could definitely be a renaissance at ABC if they cancel the lame sitcoms and put more shows like this one and Lost. |
