I definitely like it better than Seinfeld. It's brilliant. And why am I finding Jason Bateman so damn hot these days?

Love this show too! TOO bad it's on the chopping block to make room for more reality tv crap that FOX will dish at you.

From today's Philadelphia Inquirer, in Gail Shister's column, check out the last paragraph (if you're not a fan of AI, skip the bulk of the article):
www.philly.com/mld/inquir...tstory.jsp Gail Shister | Fox scrambles to reschedule 'Idol' preempted by Bush By Gail Shister Inquirer Columnist Worry not, American Idol junkies. With President Bush preempting all the networks last night, Fox wasn't about to ditch an episode of its hugely popular show. Tuesday's performance Idol, taped last night with eight surviving contestants, runs at 8 tonight. Tuesday Idols have aired live since the field went to 12 finalists on March 16. As usual, phone lines will be open for voting after tonight's show. The Tuesday Idol is averaging a stunning 26.5 million viewers this season. Idol's results show, normally seen live Wednesdays, will go on at 8 tomorrow. (It's No. 3 this season, with 24.2 million viewers.) Two hours after Fox announced that the show would be extended to an hour, it said it would run for its usual 30 minutes. "At this late hour, we found it impossible to put together an hour show for Thursday," says Fox rep Scott Grogin. "We didn't have enough material available." Translation: Fox didn't have enough hours to tape those ridiculously padded fillers with the bouncy Idol youngsters. Like all networks, Fox has never met a promotional opportunity it didn't like, so Idol will be followed tonight at 8:30 by an episode of Tru Calling guest-starring Tamyra Gray. Did we mention that she's a finalist from Idol's first season? (Oh, we just did.) At 9:30, look for a repeat of The Simpsons that happens to feature the guest voice of Simon Cowell. Did we mention that he's an Idol judge, along with Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson? (Oh, we just did.) "Thematically, having a Simpsons episode with Simon seemed appropriate," says Fox's Grogin. As for Kiefer Sutherland's 24, which occupies Fox's 9 p.m. Tuesday slot, it's been bumped to 9 p.m. Sunday. Against HBO's The Sopranos. That was Fox's only available window, Grogin says. There's more, boys and girls. An original of Malcolm in the Middle and the season finale of Arrested Development, slotted for 9 to 10 p.m. Sunday, will be pushed to April 25. Speaking of Arrested (and we do, every chance we get), Fox insiders say the edgy freshman sitcom is a lock for the fall, despite crummy ratings. **************** an early "yay" is in order? We can only hope.... |

Don't jinx it!
It would seriously suck if FOX cancelled AD, but none of us would be surprised. |

I've got my fingers crossed that AD will be on the FOX fall lineup. It's the BEST new show of the season. Maybe with a good timeslot, it can get better ratings.

I got into this show too late - and the bittorrents of episodes widely available are encoded wrong and don't play well.
I hope it comes out on DVD soon so I can sit down and watch it marathon style! |

Better Each Time | ||
|
Like any good show, when you watch them again, you pick up on things.
Like at the end of the Gilligan episode. Michael is speaking with GOB and telling GOB that he's better than their Dad. GOB reflects, and says to Michael that he's the Best Man after all. GOB then calls him "my Hermano..." Totally missed this. For those who don't realize this, three or four episodes before this, controversy struck because GOB's girlfriend, Marta, who Michael secretly loved, turns out she loved Michael and she is speaking Spanish on the phone to her mother and says she "loves Hermano." So now GOB and Michael are searching for a Spanish speaking guy named "Hermano." That was such a subtle but priceless line. Two episodes left. WATCH THIS SHOW, DAMNIT..... |

The scene I had to watch over and over and it made me laugh harder each time was last week's with GOB and his wife. She tells him she's leaving because she's in love with his brother-in-law and he says, "YOUR brother?" and she "No, Your sister's" and GOB, "My sister's brother. That's me. Me." And wife "No, your sister's husband." And so on and she's joining the army and then later he says he can't survive on the $800 dollars a month army wife stipend. It was hilarious.
Love this show. |

My favorite lines this season have to be the whole "Stew" speil from Carl Weathers. Those lines crack me up every time, and the idea of Weathers being a free-loading bum who has nothing to contribute to anything is genious.

All great, great scenes....now, anytime I have a letter come across or I have to call someone named "Michael," I find myself lowering my voice to imitate GOB.
My only criticism about last week's episode is that it made Michael out to be a slight idiot, and that goes against the grain of the show. He's the smart one in business but not in real life, so don't mess with that concept. I hope it was only a one-episode deviation. Oh, and for lines, how about in the coming attractions after the Gillian episode, when Ron Howard says "And Gilligan fulfills his destiny" and suddenly Gilligan is floating on a raft with a white cap and red long sleeved shirt, and after the babe comes over, the camera pans back to an island shot reminisicent of the closing shot on Gilligan's Island. Priceless. Is America that idiotic that they don't appreciate this? Yeah, it's up against the Soprano's and they're fighting for the same intelligent viewer, but, come on....there must be more than 15,000,000 viewers in America, no? Oh, wait....Yes, Dear does well in the ratings...Friends continues to show well even though it hasn't been good in many years.....OK, I retract that statement.... :lbf :lbf :lbf |

I'm embarrassed to admit I've yet to see this show. What I'm hoping for is a sequential re-run in the summer. There are few shows I actually watch, and I tend to abandon if I msis one, and am not good at TiVo or VCR usage. From what you all say about this show, it's can't miss, and I hope people get a chance to jump on the bandwagon this summer and catch up for next season.

From today's Detroit Free Press...
www.freep.com/entertainme...040423.htm Fox comedy is headed for parole -- too bad April 23, 2004 BY MIKE DUFFY FREE PRESS TV CRITIC A cruel fate may soon await "Arrested Development." Nothing funny about that. Fox's deliciously twisted and original family farce -- starring Jason Bateman as the lone sane member of the intensely eccentric Bluth clan of Southern California -- is by far the best new comedy on network television. Well, you know what happens to the rare sitcom of genuine quality that actually finds its way onto a network schedule in the 21st Century. Rave reviews, lousy ratings. And "Arrested Development" -- despite consistently sharp writing, a clever absurdist wit and the loopily sublime performances of a terrific ensemble of players -- has been absolutely starved for viewers all season. It's a dirty rotten shame. And now this dizzily inventive cult favorite -- which has been drawing an anemic weekly audience of 6.2 million viewers -- is just one short, depressing step away from cancellation as it uncorks its first season finale at 9:30 Sunday on Fox. That's where we'll find ex-secretary Kitty (Judy Geer) threatening to expose more Bluth business crimes and cockeyed patriarch George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor) fleeing toward Mexico. Yeah, I know, Fox is getting really, really good at this sort of aggravating madness. It's the lone major network that still takes creative chances with innovative series. And then -- aaaaargh!? -- it pulls the plug on these shows faster than you can say "Wonderfalls," "Keen Eddie," "Firefly," "The Tick," "Undeclared" or "Pasadena." You want to cheer Fox for rolling the dice on such unconventional entertainment. But you also want to scream in frustration at the rapid cancellations. Because such refreshingly different shows as "Wonderfalls" or "Keen Eddie" can't possibly survive without nurturing and an extra measure of network patience. And the sublimely bonkers "Arrested Development" abundantly deserves some of that nurturing and patience now. Heck, memorable classics like "All in the Family," "Cheers" and "Seinfeld" all started out very, very slowly in the ratings. But on most networks in 2004, they would have been gone after one season. Sheesh. OK, I've had my chance to rant. I'll shut up now. Watch "Arrested Development." It's smart, it's funny, you'll laugh. |

AD is on the cover of TV Guide this week (at least for subscribers). It's not the official "Best Show You're Not Watching" issue, but that's pretty much what they're saying. Hopefully that will help.

Well, the fact that one episode isn't being shown is an ominous sign. And this sucks because I have to tell you, I have saved each episode and find myself watching them over and over and it gets better each and every time.
Yeah, i've watched some of the other "gems" and I'm hard pressed to find one that has been SO critically received. Even the great "Sports Night." Go "google" the early reviews from the first season - the consensus was that if you want to watch Sports Night, you'd be better served to watch the original, SportsCenter. But I have not read ONE review that didn't call this one of the greatest series to come around in a long, long time. Here's hoping that if Fox fucks up and dumps it, some other network will realize what a gem this is. GRRRRRRR |

Re: Re: | ||

Well, Fox announced that they will be rerunning the season over the summer, which I'd say is very promising. Even if it just means they're trying to fill up space on their barren summer schedule it's a last ditch attempt to get the word out, and maybe more people will be converted. We can only hope.
