Oh, please please let FOX pick up Arrested Development for the fall lineup. I hope the summer reairing of the show will get some new viewers.

Quote: True, but Fox has already announced renewals for other shows but not Arrested Development. Plus, why are the NOT showing Episode 21? All of this does not bode well; however, the same was said last year about Ed and NBC caved at the last minute. Let's hope the network pinheads actually read the paper and realize how much this show is appreciated. |

Where is the information about the last episode not being aired? Everyone is referring to it, but I can't find the source. I must have skipped over the post somewhere. Anyone? Bueller?

Let 'Em Eat Cake (The Missing Episode) WILL AIR
|
Here's an update on the missing episode. Based on your question, I searched TV Tome and found out that the "missing episode" will actually air after all.
From TVTome, here are the 22 Episodes and original air dates: Season 1 1. 1-1 ARR-101 02-Nov-2003 Pilot 2. 1-2 ARR-102 09-Nov-2003 Top Banana 3. 1-3 ARR-103 16-Nov-2003 Bringing Up Buster 4. 1-4 ARR-105 23-Nov-2003 Key Decisions 5. 1-5 ARR-106 30-Nov-2003 Charity Drive 6. 1-6 ARR-104 07-Dec-2003 Visiting Ours 7. 1-7 ARR-107 14-Dec-2003 In God We Trust 8. 1-8 ARR-108 21-Dec-2003 My Mother The Car 9. 1-9 ARR-109 04-Jan-2004 Storming the Castle 10. 1-10 ARR-110 11-Jan-2004 Pier Pressure 11. 1-11 ARR-111 25-Jan-2004 Public Relations 12. 1-12 ARR-112 08-Feb-2004 Marta Complex 13. 1-13 ARR-113 15-Feb-2004 Beef Consomme 14. 1-14 ARR-114 07-Mar-2004 Shock and Aww 15. 1-15 ARR-115 14-Mar-2004 Staff Infection 16. 1-16 ARR-117 17-Mar-2004 Altar Egos (1) 17. 1-17 ARR-118 21-Mar-2004 Justice Is Blind (2) 18. 1-18 ARR-116 28-Mar-2004 Missing Kitty 19. 1-19 ARR-119 04-Apr-2004 Best Man for the Gob 20. 1-20 ARR-120 11-Apr-2004 Whistler's Mother 21. 1-21 ARR-121 25-Apr-2004 Not Without My Daughter 22. 1-22 ARR-122 06-Jun-2004 Let 'Em Eat Cake www.tvtome.com/ArrestedDe...plist.html From all episode guides, Let 'Em Eat Cake was the 21st Episode and was to air last Sunday, but when Bush spoke, 24 was moved to Sunday at 9, thus pre-empting Arrested Development. Various news sites reported that Fox had no plans to air this episode. Here is the latest news as posted on TV Tome: April 24, 2004 "Let Them Eat Cake" will reportedly air either May 30th or June 6th, likely the latter. April 21, 2004 The show is on the cover of this week's TV Guide!!!! April 21, 2004 Instead of showing "Let's Eat Cake" this Sunday, FOX will be airing "Not Without My Daughter" in a last minute scheduling change. April 19, 2004 This news story, written up by Zap2it.com, features a great interview with Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard April 19, 2004 Fox will air repeats of AD in its usual timeslot this summer. This DOES NOT GUARANTEE a new season, but it sure does look good. www.tvtome.com/ArrestedDevelopment/#news |

Bring back Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. This was the funniest she's been since the early years of Seinfeld. And I can't believe I enjoyed seeing Henry Winkler back on TV either. Or even Liza Minelli.
They should be showing repeats on FX a week or two after the shows air on Fox. (Just like ABC aired Once & Again and NBC airs the L&O shows, both on cable. And since FX is Fox-owned, and since they want the net to be more cutting edge, why not?) Plus, it'll build more buzz for the show. |

SEASON FINALE TONIGHT....WATCH IT, DAMNIT
|
Nothing new to add, other than as the title says, the Season Finale is tonight.
Renewal may depend on the ratings, although not ending during the month of May is another bad, bad sign. Shit....it's such a great show, too. |

Another good episode tonight, FOX has to renew this show. They put so much crap on, they need to give a good show like this more of a chance to develop an audience.

Tonight's epi felt like a wrap-up (maybe that was just poor little me projecting, though!) and I didn't think it was laugh out loud, like some other stuff, but of course I love it. And did you catch the cameo from Kids in the Hall's Kevin Mc Donald?
I'm so dumb, I only just recently went to the Fox website for this show. They have a Bluth family newsletter and stuff you can sign up for. I'm going to sign up under all 8 of my email accounts, in case it matters. I'm already feeling nostalgic for this show. If only Tivo was somehow able to link to Nielsen ratings, I think the networks would have a better idea of what people actually watch, and maybe this show would stand a better chance. Maybe. Then again, since most of America doesn't use Tivo, that's a half baked idea, but in the future, perhaps.... Ok, let's brace ourselves.... hopefully there will be a happy ending and we'll have at least another season to look forward to. ETA: there's nothing to sign up for at the website, just some stuff to view. oh well, maybe website hits count for something. |

Quote: The very reason I love this show, and the very reason it may not make it. People who only watch one epi just can't experience the full hilarity because the humor is so layered and rich--certainly a line can be funny, but if you haven't been watching the whole season you will miss just how clever it really is. For example, last night when Tobias was watching the "Girls With No Self-Esteem" video--those of us who have been watching the whole season can really appreciate that scene and the lines that might not mean anything to the first-time viewer are just priceless to those of us who understand the subtext. |

Re: Arrested Development

^^yes, that's true. But the layers is what makes it work. The first time you see it, you laugh at the obvious, which are so fricking funny. Then, you watch it again, and you start picking up other things.
It took me three viewings of the Gilligan episode to realize that GOB says "hermano". In and of itself, the way he says it, it's hilarious. But, taking it all in, OMG, what a funny, funny line. Emmys it SHOULD be nominated for AND win: *Writing *Supporting Actor: Jeffrey Tambor OR Will Arnett *Supporting Actress: Jessica Walter *Actor: Jason Bateman (can you BELIEVE his comic timing?) *Comedy |

Re: Arrested Development

From TV Guide's "Ask Matt" column:
tvguide.com/tv/roush/askmatt/ Question: In your April 26 Dispatch, you state that the true season finale of Arrested Development ("Let Them Eat Cake") is not scheduled to be aired by Fox. However, the TV Tome website is reporting that Fox will air the episode either May 30 or June 6, likely the latter. Are they correct? And is it true that Arrested Development is on Fox's rerun schedule for the summer? If true, I am cautiously optimistic that there is still hope for the show. After all, why show reruns if you have already canceled the series? David E. Matt: I got an update from TV Guide's scheduling department that the actual season finale of Arrested Development is likely to air June 6, conveniently outside the regular season and sweeps month. Still, better than nothing. (And don't go to the TV Tome website for this info unless you want a spoiler on one of the episode's climactic surprises.) I agree there's cause for hope in Fox's regular scheduling of repeats during the summer for exactly the reason you state. I hope the network goes one better and uses the off-season (which on Fox will actually be pretty full of original programming) to find ways to showcase and stunt-run the series to raise its profile. (A few choice Emmy nominations couldn't hurt.) |

Re: Arrested Development

I'm cautiously optimistic that the show will be back. Would FOX rerun the episodes in the summer if they didn't want it to build an audience? The combination of original programming and AD might give them somewhat decent ratings and allow AD to build a following.

Re: Arrested Development

FWIW I saw the following on someone-who-appears-to-be-in-the-know's blog (are we allowed to post links to other sites here?):
"Network up-fronts are in NYC this week; you can now spot your favorite studio wonk schmoozing over the new fall schedules at Hearth or something. Manhattanites, keep an eye out for the tan and taut West Coast executives--they'll be the ones fumbling with the concept of public transportation. NBC has unveiled its drama-heavy lineup, as will all the networks throughout the week. What you don't know, however, is that Fox will renew both Tru Calling and Arrested Development for a second season. Both will be announced on Thursday, and both were definitely on the bubble of extinction. While the impending cancellation of Tru would have had Damore and many others in a tizzy, dropping Arrested would've sparked a critical riot. Smart move, Berman: keep the peace." It's from a site called "the Blueprint," and I guess we'll know soon whether this is factual or just some fellow lunatic's wishful thinking. |

Arrested Development: RENEWED
|
FOX
(presents on Thursday, May 20) On the flip side, good news for fans of "Tru Calling" and "Arrested Development" as both series have begun staffing for the 2004-05 season, a sure sign renewals are around the corner for each. No news yet on the rest of the network's plans. And this from TV Guide online: Fox, which unveils its fall lineup on Thursday, has renewed its critically acclaimed (yet Nielsen-challenged) gem Arrested Development, Variety reports. The net has also greenlit struggling freshman drama Tru Calling for a second season. YAAAAAAAY!!!! |
