Sheldon actually is the only one who's likely not a nerd in real life. Some eyeliner, a couple of safety pins in painful places, and that guy could be fronting a retro-punk band. Even without, emo.

The problem with Penny/Leonard isn't that he's ugly. It's that she's not all that, either. A chick like that eventually will start dating for security of paycheck, so of course he's in.

She's attractive enough, but kind of ordinary given her age.

Anyhow, I'm trying to get into this show -- I love all things Chuck Lorre. And I get all but the most esoteric of the science jokes -- got the Doppler, got homo habilis, and when they were designing Penny's IKEA shelving, actually thought ahead to the heat dissipation issue before the script did.

I'm just not loving it so far.
