I don't know how he can do all of that by himself. I would be scared shitless.

I loved this show when it aired. It's too bad they never did a 2nd season (or that I haven't heard about it if they did).

What is the window of extreme conditions that the body can experience before irriversible damage occurs. Maybe he was working with a large window on several occasions. Either way, it's gotta take a toll in the long run. That dude that scaled Mt Everest like 4 times is still alive.

Do we know why he never did more episodes? I think I have seen every one from the first season like 5 times.

Sorry, but Evel Knievel > Survivorman. Cuz anyone can take a hypodermic needle of benedryl and a water bottle to parts unknown, but Evel jumped over like 100 semis and shit.

Quote: I just checked out his wiki, and apparently the second season is filming. Here's where he's going for season 2: Amazon Jungle, Ecuador South African Plains Kalahari Desert, Africa Labrador, Canada Leaf River Basin, Illinois Forreston Boreal Forest, Northwest Territories Labrador, Canada?! Weird... I guess its cold there. Everytime I watch it, I'm always amazed that not only is he surviving, but he's also dragging along and setting cameras for different shots. The guy is nuts. |

He shouldn't have killed that turtle.

Quote: That's a problem I have with both Man vs Wild and Survivorman. The animal killings are very, very uncool. Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox were both reviled for the animal killings, but I see no difference in what they're doing in these shows. Killing animals for entertainment purposes (and that's what this is) is inexcusable. But I'm a real animal person. I prefer them to people. |

Quote:If they tortured or prolonged the killing of the animal for entertainment purposes I could see your point, but all kills I have seen have been quick and as painless as possible. For those of us that aren't vegetarians there shouldn't be any complaining because animals die every day to provide us with the meat we eat. Just because these animals are wild or cute doesn't mean that killing them is any worse than killing a cow or pig. |

The new season is being advertised now. Starts sometime in early August, I believe.

Quote: I don't eat meat so I'll complain. I just don't think actual killing of animals is neccessary on these shows. An explanation of what's edible and how to catch things would be enough. All the animals killed in the notorious Italian horror movies were eaten as well, but that didn't excuse it. |

I love this show. Even the 3rd and 4th times I see an episode, I have to watch it.
Les is a crazy bastard.... and I LOVE the MacGyver crap that he does! |

A new season is filming? YAY! I love this show!
I don't have any problem at all with the killing of animals for food and/or on this show. In fact, I wish he would show in more depth how you're supposed to kill the animal, prepare it for cooking, etc. It's entertaining only because it's instructional and informative. It's not being done for some kind of blood sport. In a survival situation, if you don't consume enough calories, you could die or be permanently disabled. Without energy to build a shelter, gather firewood, travel perhaps a great distance to get to where you can be rescued. Simple as that. There aren't always enough berries or mushrooms or other vegetation to live on in most (if not all) of these harsh environments. |

Seeing meat come out of plastic containers abstracts people from the reality of what occurs. I don't see anything wrong with showing people the reality of how meat is harvested for food. In fact, people who eat meat should be forced to watch such things.

Quote: Big EKXXXX! Oh and the title is SURVIVORman, so he needs to survive. If he needs to kill a Spotted Owl in front of its crying babies, then go for it. Don't watch the show if you are offended. These militant vegetarians bitch about how awful aboriginees kill their cattle using primitive tools while sipping their "natural" Venti sugar free Hazelnut non fat iced latte. (Okay I know that because that's my favorite drink at Starbucks) |

Les Stroud >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bear Grylls.
Love that there's new episodes coming. I don't quite grasp the concept of the veggie nutcases whining about killing an animal in this realistic survival show. If was a blood sportesque, maybe, but Les shows real techniques not overly dramatized. Vegetarianism in most survival situations would ensure a quick death. |

Quote: Oh yeah realistic survivor show...like when the ship came to rescue him for the night when it stormed. I see no need to kill animals for people's entertainment, and that's what they're doing. Native people living off the land don't bother me. They could do these shows and leave the animals alone. Its just done for sensationalism. I turn to another station whenever an animal makes an appearance. |

In a sense that it is educational and that Les knowingly subjected himself to being stranded where he was, I can understand why you say that it's "entertainment". But, unlike in Man vs. Wild, Les is LITERALLY stranded with like 100 lbs. of camera gear. When we see him navigating through the jungle and up and down cliffs and stuff like that, he's actually making those same trips at LEAST twice, if not 3 or 4 times. That expends a lot of energy.
But my point with that is, he has NO ONE around to help him. The emergency backup is supposed to come pick him up if he doesn't make it out of wherever he's at within a set amount of time, so it's not like he's doing all of this for PURE show. He is actually living in the conditions that he portrays on the show, is actually having to sustain HIS life with the food that he either brings with him (which is usually nothing more than like a few strips of beef jerky) or captures and kills. So while it IS a show, and he's not required by law to be out there killing stuff, he IS in the element, and whether or not he kills a turtle or a squirrel or a deer for sustenance IS a life or death situation for him. So honestly, I think that it's not cruel what he's doing. It's necessary. |

You do know that it is NATURAL for remale mosquitoes to suck blood. So you better not be using bug spray to kill those mosquitoes, you animal killer!
Or do you only sympathize for animals who are vertebrates? Or any animal that does not inconvenience you. |
