I disagree, nuclear snake.
I think you're being overly sensitive about the issue. Maybe you'd rather die if you were in such a situation, but I wouldn't. I'd like to have SOME idea of how to go about surviving for a week. It doesn't matter that he puts himself in the situation, that he has some kind of emergency back-up plan in place or that he's making the show in order to provide "entertainment." It is also educational. But you've made your point. No one seems to agree, nor even willing to concede to you your point. Perhaps it would be best to accept it. I think Les presents a very good balance of foodstuffs that can be found in a given environment. He doesn't ONLY hunt animals - he shows many ways to find worthwhile items to consume. You've already made it quite clear that you don't value humans over animals, so why would you hold the show to be of value in helping someone to survive who found himself in such a situation? That person would NOT have a back-up plan in place, and would be thankful he'd seen a show that gave him some idea of what to do in order to remain alive. |

All I have to say is, drop a vegetarian off in the middle of a jungle with no food, no water, and a pocket knife, and the first thing they'll do when they walk out 3 days later (if they survive, that is) is go to their local Outback and order a big juicy steak.

I like the idea of dropping a vegetarian in the middle of nowhere and see what happens. Still have not answered my question! Do you kill bugs and mosquitoes? Do you have a bug spray? Because killing those animals is animal cruelty! Or when you mean animals, you only mean those except bugs? (yes, Kingdom Animalia also include bugs and insects). So where is the bounday amongst the animal hierarchy would be considered cruelty if you kill them? Okay to kill bugs but not rabbits, okay to squash mosquitoes but okay to kill a sewer rat. That boundary shifts depending on people's perception and yours is not the standard. |

He should have stated in his contract that he would not kill any animals. He even seemed remorseful about having to kill it, reasoning he was only doinjg it for the nourishment it provided. It would have been even more amazing had he been able to do it without having to kill it. The jungle has its set of laws of eat or be eaten. Unfortunately for that particular animal, it was being eaten by a human, instead of another creature. Like it or not, that's how the food chain goes.
I do get what you are saying. BUT, to get upset over this show that is actually trying to enlighten the average person who like you said would never set foot in the jungle is light years ahead of the average redneck/asshole that hunts for sport. Out of curiosity, do you picket the tackleshops or places where people shop for guns to kill deer? |

nuclear snake- What makes you not understand that this show is about HOW TO SURVIVE in the wild.
Survival includes EATING and i for one am glad they include what you can eat and the proper way to do so. While Les is out there, he himself is part of the food chain too. It's not entirely outside the realm of possibility that he could become dinner himself I'm an animal lover myself but i'm capable of seeing the difference between what he's doing versus frying ants for fun with a magnifying glass. I love this show His "Feet Fungus Blues" cracks me up |

I am loving this show. I watched the first season in its entirety and am now catching all the second season.
This guy is the perfect balance between crazy and sane. The choices he makes out there for his own survival, including knowing when to hang it all up and get to a warm bed vs. when to tough it out, are right on. His ability to know what would make good TV while he's out there -- the guys' a genius editor/producer/director of his own adventure. He's gotta win some award or something. And he manages to do it all while staying in a character that I'd like to have a beer with -- not over the top, not bland. Things I've learned: Charred cloth -- who knew? Coconut oil as sunscreen? Of course! Peeing in a circle and covering it with plastic? Wow. Rabbit starvation from too much protein? Eat the bones! Wind is your worst enemy! I do not ever want to go on safari in the Amazon. Major kudos to him. One of my favorite shows of all time. |

I'm only sad that the latest season only had ?3 new episodes and a recap.....tho I understand you can't exactly go out into the wild too many times, it
must take a toll on the body....

I was just getting into this show when I saw the Borneo one, where he was invited to the local tribe's "celebration" and I heard him drop
something about it being the "last Survivorman ever..." and I nearly choked. I have GOT to get this on DVD. It does make sense though that he can NOT
keep this up forever. Considering the parasites and bugs and abuse he's put his body through over the course of filming this series, there's only so
much the guy can take.
