I hope Pat's character becomes more secure/confident in her ability and stops deciding what to do with it as a career.

Medium is "different" and unique. The concept is great but the first episode was somewhat choppy. Once Patricia went to Texas to solve the crime, the scenes were longer (more enjoyable) and not 2 second throw-ins.
I hope Pat's character becomes more secure/confident in her ability and stops deciding what to do with it as a career. |

First episode was average. I thought the beginning of the episode was stupid. Why do you need 20 texas rangers to meet a crazy women? Why do you need all of them to follow her to 7 phoney crime scenes? I also don't understand why they showed the dead girl in her room but they didn't show the dead people when she was questioning the 17-year old.

I thought last night was supposed to be a new episode? The description was for the new one but what they showed was a repeat of the pilot. Lame.
I also thought the acting was bad, but liked the premise so I'll give it a few more episodes before I don't watch anymore, besides there's nothing else on Monday nights anyway. |

I thought last night was supposed to be a new show, too. I want to like this show, I swear. But if they keep dicking with me, I'm gone. Patricia or no Patricia.

I'm in the camp that thinks Patricia Arquette is miscast here. This calls for an actress who can quietly convey a lot of inner turmoil. Patricia's just too bland... that is, when she's not acting superior to everyone around her. The producers should have found a more offbeat actress.
And BitterGrapes is correct: the writers have to reach a consensus on just how powerful the Medium is. Sometimes her powers seem to approach super-hero status, other times she is clueless. Make up your mind. If her abilities are only going to be as powerful as is convenient for the scriptwriters, then this formula will grow stale quickly. |

Remember her powers are only as strong as the impulses she gets from "the otherside" If they don't want to talk to her, she cant make them!

I just saw the first episode. I thought it was very average. I may give it one or two more episodes, but if it doesn't improve, I don't think I'll keep watching.
The acting was fine, I thought, but the story didn't really interest me. It seemed very basic. There wasn't really any mystery to it. |

So what happened to the one that was previewed last Monday? The one where she learns her daughter is psychic.

Significant improvement over last week's. Still confused about the extent of her powers, but at least she is too. Those murder scenes were fucking creepy.
Also, who was convinced something was going to happen when she was on the phone with the DA at the end? The way the window was dominating the shot, I was so sure we were gonna see something/someone. |

I agree that tonight's episode was a definite improvement over the pilot. At least she was shown to not be completely perfect and right, and could be subject to making a real mistake in the future. Her abilities are clearer, although they could go all Charmed on us and just suddenly having her levitate crap and crushing peoples minds with a thought.

I don't know about this show.
I love the concept and it has great potential but of the first two episodes I've watched I'm just not feeling it or anything for it. *typo* |

I missed the pilot so I can't speak for that episode, but as a first-time watcher tonight, I'm hooked.
Just liked the writing/directing style. Acting seems fine all around. Just seemed to work...mainly the writing I think. All the little jokes with her husband, etc. Seems "real" enough while using a way whacked out concept. |

For me the show will remain watchable as long as Patricia Arquette brings her two friends.

Quote: I agree, and I really want to like this show. It just seems to move too damn slow...not enough psychic crime solving and way too much of Arquette telling her husband, "that's not funny". How many friggin' times did she say that last night? I was thinking/hoping this new episode would be more interesting than the last but I was really bored with it. I'm not giving up on it but I would really like to see it kicked up a notch or two. |

Arquette: World's worst actress? | ||

They could have pulled anyone off the street and she'd turn in a better performance than Arquette. She's a blob; there's absolutely nothing there. She's killing the show.

I want this show to be good. I love the idea and the story lines. But Arquette is awful. I keep thinking I am looking at Darryl Hannah, which is no better. She just cannot act.
Didn't like the way this second episode ended. Maybe it will be continued in other episodes. Loved the little girl waking up screaming because mom was screaming. She said ,"Mom, you have to stop doing this!" Funny. Kathie |
