I didn't even know what this show was about until they played an ad during Heroes. As a huge fan of the genre I'm quite pleased someone's trying it again and am pleased that it's off to a good start, and hopefully will stick around.

I think it's a lot more like Early Edition than Quantum Leap.

I'm also a nitpicker and will probably be watching as much to point out anachronisms and other goofy quirks about the show, but I do it because I love.

- Whatever force is throwing Dan around has quite an imagination (and that's fine, I never had a problem with the unexplained motives in Early Edition). In the original timeline, the Gaines kid never existed. He was never conceived, because his dad presumably killed himself in 1987, and even if he hadn't his mother probably wouldn't have kept him in 1990 if Dan hadn't intervened. The kid goes on to save six other kids who presumably would have died in a bus crash. Father Time could have just sent Dan to the bus crash to save them himself, but instead cooked up an elaborate plan to create an entirely new life spawned from two random strangers. Basically it said "okay, go back and save this one guy. Okay, good job, but now you have to go here and make sure he has a kid. Great, but now you have to get the guy killed so he doesn't kill his kid. Okay, good, now everything is back to normal, except now there's an extra human on the planet who will save six others. See you next week."

- One wonders why Dan made the first jump, to 1999 (they were watching a GB-SF game, he said the game was "eight years ago", so I assume it was the '99 wild-card game). He saw Livia get in a cab, and I take it to mean she was headed for the plane that would eventually crash. Why was he there? It's not like Time would have an underlying plan to get him to save Livia, because Livia appears to be a time-traveler too and wasn't really on the plane.

- In reality I think it would take a little more than a buried ring and an old newspaper to convince someone that you can travel through time. That's okay though, corniness comes with the territory in time-travel stories. Like the brick cellular phone, and the little touches in his past self's apartment (it wouldn't be 1997 without the pipes screensaver and a 3-disc CD changer with Sarah McLachlan's "Surfacing" in it). Ooh, a picture of the World Trade Center. It must be the past! I hope they do more of that.

- What, exactly, led Dan to believe that putting-right-where-once-went-wrong is a permanent occupation? He saves the day, then gets ready for his next adventure. What if Time just needed to borrow him for the weekend?


This is gonna be a great show.
