Jean Smart can do no wrong. She should've walked away with the award last year, same with Lisa Kudrow.

Gregoire, to take your example even further:
According to Jim - 1 nomination The Wire - 0 nominations 'Nuff said. These awards officially have ZERO credibility anymore. And Walton Goggins (The Shield) was robbed in the Supporting Actor category. This guy is one of the most underrated actors on TV. |

Quote: How many episodes have you watched, PF? Because the show itself is SO much more than that "schtick". There are lots of great characters, actors and plotlines on there. They don't focus on Betty's "ugliness" much at all. Maybe in the beginning it did, but it's turned itself into a fantastic, well written and acted show. I am thrilled to see her nominated, and I do love Felicity Huffman too, who won in 2005. But this is the first season for UB to be nominated, so I'm sure it will do well. SO happy to see Vanessa Williams nominated too. |

I feel like America Ferrera has already won two Emmys. The Golden Globes really steal the Emmys thunder. The Globes have become the edgy ones.
Of course they didnt recognize the Wire either! |

These awards all seem to blend together, don't they Gregoire?

I stopped watching Betty a while back, so it's quite possible it has improved since then. I guess it just wasn't my cup of tea.

I'm bummed with the lack of noms for Friday Night Lights. It's one of the most brilliant shows I've ever seen and I really wanted it to at least get a Best Drama nod.

Quote: I can understand it not being everyones cup of tea. The show really took a different direction right around the 4th or 5th episode. It seemed almost like a totally different show. I really think it deserves the awards it wins. |

I love Lost but Elizabeth Mitchell didn't deserve a nomination. And heck maybe she doesn't deserve one with bad career choices...*cough* the Santa Clause *cough*

The plotlines to UB is still ridiculously bad, IMO. Granted, I saw like two episodes, but the plot consisted of a girl who was formerly a guy who's this dude's brother and all this weird blackmail stuff. I can't imagine a bunch of old geezers sitting through that show. But I guess so. I predict it'll go the route of Desperate Housewives (no longer getting love) and Grey's Anatomy (still getting love) soon (i.e. the shitter). I just hope the Academy's reaction will be like the DH got.
If UB wins over Entourage, the Office, or 30 Rock, I'll kill someone. |

Re: ... | ||

Can anybody who's seen them disagree that the top five nominees for best drama should have been...
Friday Night Lights Lost Rome The Shield The Wire with Deadwood, Rescue Me, Dexter, and/or Sopranos maybe sneaking in? Ive watched every episode of Heroes, greatly enjoy it, but I do not call it great riveting drama. This is kind of the equivalent of a Superman comic being nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. House isnt a great drama, its a great performance in a mediocre procedure. |

I'd take out Lost and put in Dexter, but other than that I agree with your list.

Quote: If I had my druthers, THE SOPRANOS wouldn't be up for consideration, but I think that those 9 shows should be the ones in consideration for BEST DRAMA. Maybe SLEEPER CELL or BROTHERHOOD would round out the top 10. Most HOUSE fans would have you believe that the only outstanding thing about the show is Hugh Laurie himself, which makes his nom for BEST LEADING ACTOR deserved, but the show is nowhere close to being the best drama. And if the category were limited to regular network shows, I think there are 5 shows that are more deserving. |

I'm really indifferent about award shows having seen so many disaster nominations through the years and winners who were not winners imho.
This said, we all have our favs! I love 'THE RICHES'. It's refreshing and Minnie Driver is excellent. I know many don't watch it so I do hope it catches on quickly. My boss encouraged me to watch it and I was hooked from that moment on. Lost: I really am not surprised it's off the list, also 24. I didn't find either to be stellar. I do think there were performances worthy of these awards. Desperate Housewives was over for me a year back. It just lacks with average performances and some poor storylines. Rescue Me is another 'gritty' show that I believe is robbed most years. Usually I'm disappointed with the results. Died that year = award (in some cases/and not deserved), 'should' have won the year before = award for a lesser year..etc.. everyone knows this rant. :) Boston Legal is great. Love the characters (yes, over the top and likely more a mix = dramedy), the writing and the acting. I find this show far more enjoyable to watch over D.H.'s. |

Re: awards | ||
Quote: I definitely agree with Lost and Friday Night Lights. I haven't seen the other three so I can't comment. I would absolutely throw Dexter in there too. I gave up on Heroes. After a while, I just didn't care anymore and it became a chore to watch it. I quit watching when it came back after one of the many hiatus periods we were subjected to. |

Re: awards | ||
Quote:Entourage, really? The other two I agree with, and 30 Rock is by far the funniest show on TV that is jsut funny for funny's sake. But The Sopranos has more laughs than Entourage. Shit Rescue Me, and thank you to who pointed it out as grossly overlooked drama, has more laughs than Entourage. |

Re: ... | ||
Quote: I forgot about both of those! There is no excuse to ignore Sleeper Cell. Like the Wire, I dont think it even got any technical categories. Another beef -- I love Helen Mirren like the next person, but she always gets nominated for Prime Suspect and wins. She'll definitely win this time too, because its the last one and her competition is weak (Debra Messing in the Starter Wife?) She is amazing in those, but come on. The TV movie categories are always weak. Wasnt Broken Trail released like five years ago? |
