Uh, David Wallace, the CFO. He's been in like a dozen episodes. He mentioned Kendall while interviewing Jim for Jan's job at the end of s3.

Though lots of people are finding fault with this week's ep, I think pretty much all of us agree that the worst Office episode is better than the best of virtually any other show. I do recall once saying 30 Rock "won" one night, but I don't think I'd be able to recall when.

I loved the episode. I am still trying to figure out how Pam can come back to the Office. I mean...she's not gonna wanna go back to reception after getting a degree in whatever it is she's getting a degree in.

The Dwight "cuckold" comment was hilarious. God bless a show to work that word into dialog.

Finally saw the writer's panel feature on the S4 DVD. LOVED Mindy's 'indignation' when asked if the writer/actors ever write something special for thier own characters. "What about 'Diwali' did you think came from me or my life at all? Was it that I cast my own parents in it? How dare you!?"

It really was. I was dying. Especially when it was combined with Andy looking clueless and Angela trying to avoid the gaze of the camera.

The whole Battlestar Galactica Dumbledore Calrissian conversation was hilarious with Dwight DYING to say something. Apparently his ethics are easily compromised by Angela.

I don't know about everyone but I absolutely love the dynamic that has evolved between Michael and Holly and the rest of the staff, especially when you compare it to when Toby was around. Toby was tolerated by the staff while Michael thought he was evil personified when he was basically doing his job. Holly is also trying to do her job but this time Michael is on her side and the staff are starting to actively dislike her.

I LOVED how they got around Meredith not getting fired. It turned the entire episode around on its head. At first you're thinking that Michael really doesn't give a crap about the things that happen in the office and just lets things go because he wants people to be happy. And it makes complete sense. And yet... we know he likes Holly a lot and it didn't make sense that he would get so incredibly pissed at her for not listening to him and leaving it alone.

And then Wallace comes on the phone and it all becomes clear why exactly he was trying so hard to stop her from reporting Meredith.

That right there was great writing. I really hope they can continue to develop this Michael-Holly relationship because of how well it works in bringing depth to those characters.

Holly is such a dork... "I'm from the future." She can't avoid making the lamest nerdiest (and unfortunately unavoidable) jokes ever no matter what the situation. Michael and her are too alike.

I love the Holly/Michael dynamic, too. Their "Let's Get Ethical" song and dance was so corny it was hilarious. Great scenes with Michael and her going out to lunch -- lobster dinners and wine at some bizarre restaurant -- and then him slamming her leftovers into the trash can.

To be honest the only reason I even watch the Office on the night it airs is because people at work like to talk about it the next day. Otherwise it would just sit on the tivo for whenever I could get to it, because the bad episodes are super frustrating for me. Supernatural airs in the same slot on another channel and that is the one show I would agree is consistently stellar, with their average episodes being leagues ahead of anything on TV. However, imo the Office is getting backs its focus and I am feeling cautiously optimistic about this season. There's not as much wackiness and they're reining it in a bit when needed. I haven't been paying attention to the writing credits this season but I wonder if maybe they are just using the better writers more. I think the Stephen Merchant directed episode is coming up in the next couple weeks, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

Gene & Lee, who wrote the Emmy nominated "Dinner Party," scripted the premiere. Last night's episode was written by Ryan Koh, who joined the staff last year and has never written an episode before.

That wasn't Wallace, it was "Kendall" from corporate HR.

Kendall being a douche also goes far in explaining why Toby was impotent in his role as Michael's HR. Virtually everyone in the branch has done something to warrant termination, but whenever Toby actually did try to do something about it he was likely cock-blocked by Kendall.

He didn't get pissed at her for not listening. He got pissed at her right when, after he said that the people in the office were like family, she replied that it was just business. The moment those words left her mouth, Michael's face changed to his "furious" look. The people in the office are his family, and saying otherwise got him steamed. Likewise, I don't think it was the failure of her plan that cheered Michael up again. I think it was watching the corporate guy beat up on her when it was obvious she was just trying to do what she thought was best. He sympathized with her when that happened, and started sticking up for her again.

I forgot about my favorite moment of the episode. When Dwight comes back from a rendezvous (oops, sorry Meredith..."meet-up") with Angela, he refuses to tell Jim where he's been. Jim says "well I guess you're not completely ethical after all". Dwight replies "I guess not". Jim smiles at the camera, thinking he's won. Then Dwight smiles at the camera, thinking he's won. And Dwight really did win this one, and he knows it, and Jim doesn't.

Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) practices for the birth of Jan's (Melora Hardin) baby by having Dwight (Rainn Wilson) go over possible birthing scenarios. Meanwhile, Michael tells Holly (guest star Amy Ryan) that he will pretend to dislike her for Jan's benefit.
