I love the episode when Dan and Roseanne just gave Becky some money to go to college:
Roseanne: Can you believe it Dan, two kids in college!
Dan: This is gonna be hard to explain at the next White Trash Association meeting.

Kiara says "MARK" died?
Is that the character or he really really died? |

Another episode that stands out in my mind was the one where the electricity was cut off because they couldn't pay the bill. That was sad and funny at the same time. I liked the part where they were telling stories in the living room and DJ was going on and on like a real child would and finally Darlene said, "the end." And then Roseanne was telling her story and Darlene said, "Mom, that's Designing Women." I liked that one. |

So happy to see this thread. This is one of those shows that I always truly loved, but was afraid to admit because the show got so much ridicule. I never could figure out why. The casting was pure genius IMO - one of the best ensembles ever put together! Even the ones with the minor recurring roles were great. I think this show gave me more belly laughs than any other sitcom I've watched ever. Most of my fave's have already been mentioned except one - I loved the way they wrote the story line about Jackie's boyfriend beating her. I almost stood up and cheered when Dan went and beat the crap out of him. It played out with the perfect mix of sensitivity, compassion, and comedy.

StopLurking, I loved that one, too! I've always thought Laurie Metcalf, I think is her name, was such a talented actress. But then, you're right, they were all good.
Whenever I see Fred Thompson, the former Tenn senator, talking on one of the news shows, I ALWAYS picture that sleazy, slimy boss-man character that he played for an episode or two. |

I will never forget the episode where Roseanne breaks her front tooth. The best line is when she walks into her diner and Martin Mull looks at her and comments "I like it...bumpkin works for you".

This is so sick...I just thought of another one that makes me laugh out loud...another Martin Mull episode.
I think it was either his first one or one of his first ones. He comes into the restaurant and he says something to Roseanne and Bonnie or it may have been the first waitress before Bonnie, the black one, anyway, he's explaining to them that the purpose for the restaurant in the middle of the store is to keep the customers from leaving the store and they need to move them along as quickly as possible. He tells them to be courteous but brusque or something along those lines. So Roseanne says they'll get less tips that way and hes tells her she'll make up the difference in volume. Then he goes to leave and an elderly customer tells him she forgot to order something to drink and he says in an exxageratedly loud voice...Well I guess you're kicking yourself now then aren't you? And then he mouths to them as he walks past her...GET HER OUT OF HERE! This may be one of those that you need to see to appreciate, but it makes me laugh picturing Martin Mull motioning for them to get her out. |

Quote: We found out in the last epsisode that everything from Dan's heart attack onward was Roseanne's fantasy. We see her writing in her journal in that last ep. Quote: That was classic. "We lost Dad...Dad passed away....Dad has passed away...Dad's gone!...DAD'S DEAD!!!!!.HE'S DEAD!!...DAD'S FINE, HE SENDS HIS LOVE". |

I thought at the end Roseanne said all the chracters were fantasies or something and like Darlene and Mark were married or something like that.

Darlene and Mark were together and Becky and David were together, if I'm not mistaken.
I think someone else had it right about Dan dying of a heart attack and everything about winning the lottery being a fantasy. |

Re: Roseanne | ||
Quote: In the last ep, we see Roseanne writing in her journal and hear her voice-over narrating. These are the truths that were revealed: 1) Dan died after his heart attack. (In Roseanne's fantasy, he lived) 2) There was no lotto. (in the fantasy, they won it) 3) Darlene and Mark were actually a couple as were Becky and David. (in her fantasy, Roseanne made it the other way around, because she felt that Darlene and David were better suited for each other; same with Becky and Mark) 4. Jackie was a lesbian. (in the fantasy, Roseanne made her mother, Bev, a lesbian because she wanted Bev to have "some sense of herself as a woman") 5. Something about Leon (Martin Mull) not really being as funny or witty as she made him out to be. 6. Something about Nancy (Sandra Bernhardt). Can't remember. |

How about when Roseanne found out that David's mom (Sally Kirkland) was abusive and she went over there.
"People in glass whorehouses shouldn't throw stones." Then she lets David stay with them. Did you see the one where everybody wears the rooster shirt during the episode? |

I Love this show
How about the episode when Roseanne is concerned after Jackie drinks to solve her problems. Jackie and Roseanne are in the kitchen, Roseanne is making pancakes and lecturing Jackie on how she shouldn't turn to alcohol every time she has a problem... Jackie turns and says to Roseanne "Well, have another shot of pancake Roseanne" That line kills me every time Also the episode where, after working all day at the loose meat place, Jackie gets home and tells everyone about a funny moment at work before Roseanne has a chance to tell them. The screaming match that ensues followed by Jackie stomping up the stairs and slamming the door is a classic. |

The 'smoking the weed in the bathroom' eppy was one of my faves too!
The HALLOWEEN eppies were always worth looking forward too. (kinda like the Halloween Simpsons are for me) |

Great thread!
My all time favourite episode is likely the one where David comes to live with the Conners. That whole scene with Sally Kirkland and Roseanne, "Oh, I'm in this now" is just amazing. One of my other favourite scenes is with Darlene and Dan in the jailhouse when she goes to bail him out after he beats up Fisher. Dan's face when Darlene strolls in. "Mom's out organizing the candelight vigil" |
