It has a title now: NYPD Blue creator Milch working on HBO cop drama Fri Jan 18, 2008 2:23am EST By Nellie Andreeva LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Veteran TV producer David Milch is returning to his "NYPD Blue" roots with his third drama pilot at HBO in three years. "Last of the Ninth" deals with rampant NYPD corruption in the 1970s. Milch co-wrote the pilot with fellow "NYPD Blue" executive producer Bill Clark, a former New York homicide detective. Milch is a cop drama veteran, having received his start on Steven Bochco's "Hill Street Blues" before moving on to co-create ABC's Emmy-winning "NYPD Blue" with Bochco. Milch tackled similarly tough themes in his dark Western "Deadwood," which ended its three-season HBO run in 2006. "Last of the Ninth" stems from Milch's development deal with HBO, which was extended in August, following the network's cancellation of "John From Cincinnati" after its first season. An HBO version of NYPD Blue sounds way cooler than John from Cincinnati, and is more likely to be a ratings success. The corruption aspect sounds kind of like The Shield, which also makes this a must-see for me.

Milch before Deadwood wanted to set a cop drama in Rome...but they were already doing Rome, so then he did Deadwood. Now that the JFC experiment didn't pan out, let's do a cop show set in the 70's. Serpico anyone? Not that I won't watch of course.

Is there some kind of petition i can sign? if so can someone give me a link, or should we start sending nuts to whats-his- names house instesd. I really do thnk its a show that deserves a least a telemovie, which i think the fans deserve and to give everyone the proper send-off.

That said, the Deadwood follow up will never be done. Ever. When it got cancelled, a bunch of us fans took out a full page ad in Variety expressing our feeling about it. We signed hundreds of petitions, we wrote emails and letters to HBfuckingO. The sets are gone, the actors are all doing other projects...it's over. It might have had a chance if Chris Albrecht were still in charge, but he's gone. Sucks, but that's the way it is.
