I can actually watch it with my mom, which is rare indeed these days. So, was anyone else dissappointed with the third season premiere? (Monk goes to NYC). It seemed a bit like their head writer had quit or something. They seemed to be trying too hard. I hope it gets back to it's old self when it returns to San Francisco!

Sometimes the first epis are the worst with the reintroduction of the characters and yeah, "trying too hard". Didn't like the street preacher/Monk preaching scene - kinda out of character to me. Definitely think the next epi with a chimp with a gun sounds a lot better - no more monkeying around!

He is obsessed with neatness and cleanliness yet he puts on a tattered filthy robe. Otherwise, Monk is a good character and Sharona plays well against him.

The first is some kind of romantic potential between Monk and his nurse. What's the long term point of the show, otherwise? I would guess the new female will not have any children. That was another dumb idea - imo. The second thing it needs to have is some kind of steady unfolding of the mystery surrounding Monk's wife. Again, if this don't happen, what's the point of the show? They have referenced his wife in a couple of episodes but never actually made any progress. They could take a few tiny steps each season and never actually penetrate the surface until the fifth year but there have been entire seasons when the mystery of her death is not even mentioned. I'm no professional story writer or producer. But it seems obvious to me that a real producer would be all over these two points. Bottom line for me is that I really like Tony and really want to like this show. But I don't think the show is good enough for him. The plots are too simple minded and he is capable of some real quality acting. He never gets to show any of that in this show. I'm sorry if I offend anyone who likes the show. But I have a feeling Tony is just wasting his time in this show.

Even if that happens, could there possibly be any physical contact between them? Monk wouldn't do something like kissing or having sex, would he? I mean, those acts being so NOT hygienic and all. It'd be hilarious to see him try.

I now watch it whenever it's on. I too thought the preacher thing was out of character, as well as just plain unexplained. I think plenty of OCD sufferers are married, and have sex... I think it's something he'd do if he found the person worth the germs. sort of like being 'sponge worthy'. Tony Shalhoub is HOT, and I'd love to see him have sex. Also, it's terrific to see him having a show that allows him to shine, unlike his previous series "Wings" which I watched mostly to see him.

They make all his TV pale in comparison. He's done 3 TV series and I think Stark Raving Mad was probably the best. I think his best film was The Siege. What a fabulous film that was! He was also great in Big Night, Men in Black, Gattaca, IQ, Barton Fink, and Honeymoon in Vegas. Galaxy Quest is a different kind of film - kind of a light comedy but he was great in that too.

He and Doogie Howser were a good team. I've seen all the films you've mentioned, except Gattica. He is terrific in everything. I just love him, ever since Antonio showed up as a waiter on "Wings", and then came back as the cab driver.

In the past, Monk was always written as a deeply neurotic, but brilliant, man. Now, he seems to be brain-damaged... all the time. And they're dumping Sharona??? This show is done. Too bad it didn't hold up for another couple of seasons.

I bought it, but the bonus features don't work. is this a common problem? I traded it in for a new one, same problem. I can hear the music but not the speaking on the bonus stuff. the eps play fine.

It was a good light love story where she played a driven TV news reporter and the street preacher predicted, "An angel will fall from the sky." It turns out that had nothing to do with her but the story line was that people thought it was a prophecy that she would die in a plane crash. I seem to remember it was Tony who played the street preacher. Can anyone confirm whether or not it was him?

Maybe he just used the work he did in that film in this episode. Her love interest in that film was Edward Burns. I have seen a few small films he has done and he sure seems to be able to pick great films. I can't remember the name of the film but he played an assassin in a film about a restaurant where two brothers were trying to muscle in on the owner. I know few people will agree but I just thought it was terrific and he was great. The movie may have been called Dinner Rush and if you ever want to rent a movie but have nothing good on your list, I think you will really enjoy this.

I don't think it has much to do with their abilities. I'm guessing that if Jessica (brain dead) Simpson ever demanded that title, she would get it too. I don't have enough interest to check, but I'm guessing both her and Nick have that title on their show. I don't know - I've never watched it.

I did like the one where Sharona was replaced with the black nurse. I'm sorry to see Bitty Schram leave the show (she was excellent in A League of Their Own, and I hope she finds more work soon) but the show definitely needs a breath of fresh air. Monk turned into an idiot savant clown - a parody of himself during last season. It was painful to watch occasionally. The new woman in Monk's appears to be none other than Traylor Howard, whom I remember as Joy from Boston Common (another funny as hell show). I don't know if she's his "assistant" or a romantic interest, just don't know, but I hope she's good. I'd love to see Monk hang around for another couple seasons.

Yesterday they finally, FINALLY reran the pilot - put they didn't put it on the schedule. They said they were running a 1 hr Traylor Howard episode, followed by two or three hours of repeats from the third season. So, I set my TiVo to record the one new eppie. But what they actually showed was the TWO HOUR original pilot. What I got was ONE hour of it. USA NETWORK SUCKS!!!!! Monk is one of their biggest draws, they finally bother to rerun the pilot - which they haven't done ONCE in the year I've been watching Monk, and when they finally do rerun it, they don't bother to put it on any of the schedules. DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!!!! You aren't going to get viewers that way USA!!!
