I love the concept.... but GREASE? Argh! I guess GREASE is perfect for the general public.
I would like them to audition people for Eponine, Marius, Valjean, Javert and Fantine from Les Miz. |

There was a British show called "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria" sort of like this, but casting for the lead role in Sound of Music. I stumbled upon it on Youtube, and it was AWESOME. They sing a mix of pop and showtunes, and the group numbers are songs from Sound of Music. The best part is that when one of them gets voted off, all the other Marias line up and sing "So Long, Farewell, auf Wiedersehn, goodbye!"
Oh, and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER was a judge, lol. I think they gave the judges a little more power so that they didn't end up with a VFTW for their eventual Maria.

For the record, they're promoting the show with "You're the One That I Want"...
That is NOT in the Broadway version. Instead, they sing a similar song called "All Shook Up." I'm a Broadway purist. |
