A female network news anchor - it sorta worked with Barbara Walters, although she was never really THE anchor, in the manner of Cronkite, Jennings, Rather or Browkaw. It failed with Connie Chung and Elizabeth Vargas, but maybe they were too bright and attractive for the job. If that was their downfall then Couric has a shot, since she is both unattractive and vapid. But realisticly, it's far more likely that Sean McManus will be fired in 6 months while CBS scrambles to replace both him and Couric, while attempting to save face by having her host specials 5 times a year.

Don't kid yourself. CBS is stuck with Katie for five years at least.
Remember how bad Bryant Gumble was on the Today show? He lasted for, what, ten years? NBC couldn't fire the guy because he was ____. Now, the same kind of thing with Katies. She's a _____ so unless she retires, she'll be there as long as she wants. That's show biz, folks. |

The question is whether the 6:30 news is relevant anymore? Back when Murrow and Cronkite ruled the airwaves, it did. Now? I'm not discounting the Tiffany Network's decision. I have never understood the big deal about Katie Couric and I think her appeal has been vastly overrated. When she takes over, I don't think you'll see any difference in ratings, they might even decline

Katie Couric is going to do great.
Nobody watching evening news anymore for real information. 24 hour networks and the internet have taken the urgency out of it. She will just force it into the direction its already lurching -- fluff and non-information. |

It is shallow and superficial of me, but I could never concentrate on what she said on the Today show because I was too distracted by the inept way she applied her make-up. I'm going to have to turn into CBS to see if they hired her a make-up artist.

It's amazing that this is being seen as some momentous occasion for Couric and for women everywhere.

CBS nightly viewership is up with my beloved Bob Schieffer.
That said they fired or he quit - John Roberts and upped the cheescake quota with Lara Logan and some other chicks.. sadly Kimberly Dozier who is a great reporter is likely inactive for many years... there are some truly great reporters affiiliated with CBS but they have forsaken their roots and gone with Anderson Cooper for 60 Minutes and now this Katie Couric bitch who reminds me of the whole Connie Chung debacle of years gone. Of course I recall Jessica "cokewhore" Savitch and NBC's attempt at a woman anchor.. or ABC with Baba Walters.. Katie is garbage, she is not a reporter, but a newsreader and somehow the insightful inquiries and charm of Bob will be gone for someone who will attempt to have the newsdesk front removed so she can show off her legs. Jesus she needs to show them off to distract from that face! |

She's completely undermined her credibility as a reputable journalist. According to the news on my web page, Katie's first day on the job and she's covering photos of the previously unseen Suri Cruise. Gee....that's important news.
I hate this shit that just because I'm female, I'm supposed to support Katie. She was annoying on TODAY, she'd be my last choice for the evening news. |
