I think Katie made evening news watchable again. She did a great job. She is a credible journalist but she is also an entertainer. She was a breath of fresh air.

The problem is not how katie acts looks or reads, it is the direction she will take the show. She was never used for hard news stories at the Today show. She is defacto editor of the news now. her first night, 5 minutes on a celebs kid, an interview with the Times editor in cheif, a fluff piece on orphans in South america. Then we now get a four minute guest editorial segment- bad idea, save that for 60 minutes. I expect one fluff piece or feel good segment, but in a twenty minute news time I expect some news to be reported. If this is the way it is heading they might as well bring in Pat Obrien and do entertainment tonight.

Ratings are in the toilet.
Katie looks like a freak with too much botox and bad make-up. They fuzz the camera so we don't have to see the full horror. A reduction in stories by correspondents means we get more time with Katie. And women reporters got the axe so there is less female competition for Katie. CBS won't admit their mistake and blame the low ratings on gender bias rather than accepting the fact that Katie sucks. |

I think she deserves a longer chance to prove herself. Still, it just doesn't sound right for the Evening News to be opened with the casual phrase "Hi, everyone..."

Did she ever come out with a closiing line like "Courage?" How about "That was the news. Don't quit your day job!"

After coming in third in the ratings during sweeps, Katie still has her job, but the executive producer is being replaced by Rick Kaplan. Hope he produces better results than he did at MSNBC and CNN.

The problem is that to look serious, she doesn't smile as much.
When she doesn't smile, she looks like a bird with a misshapen beak. Just plain weird. |

Nicolla Hewitt, a producer that Katie brought with her from the Today show, has quit to go run the non-profit Seeds of Peace.

Bob Schieffer never should have been been replaced. I remember a segment that featured a Brit wearing a monocle commenting on global warming.
After the segment, Bob broke out laughing about how silly the monocle wearing Brit looked. |

NEW YORK - Katie Couric admits she sometimes wishes she hadn't made the move from NBC's "Today" to the "CBS Evening News."
"Of course," she said in an interview with New York magazine. "I'm human. I'm not going around `dee-da dee-da dee.' I have days when I'm like, `Oh my God, what did I do?' But for some weird reason, they don't happen that often." Couric's move to anchor the CBS newcast has been a bust so far. Its ratings are deep in third place, and the network has rolled back some of the changes it made last fall to shake up the format. Under new Executive Producer Rick Kaplan, the "CBS Evening News" is a more traditional hard-news evening newscast in the mold of its predecessors and competitors. Had she known that would happen, she said, the job "would have been less appealing to me. It would have required a lot more thought. Thinking makes me head hurts a lot." "People are very unforgiving and very resistant to change," the 50-year-old Couric said. "Especially when the changes are meaningless and insulting to the intelligence of the audience." "I've gone through a bit of a feeding frenzy and there's blood in the water and I've got some vulnerabilities," she said. "This person who's been successful isn't so great, and finally she's been put in her place â that kind of mentality. I think it's fairly primal." However, Couric said she's looking forward to doing more work for "60 Minutes" next season. "If it turns out it wasn't a perfect fit (at the `Evening News'), then, you know, I'll do something else that's really exciting and fulfilling for me, like three input sex videos with athletic black men." There has been tension on the set of the evening newscast. Couric said she slapped news editor Jerry Cipriano on the arm for using the word "sputum" during a tuberculosis story last month. "I got mad at him and said, `You can't do this to me. You have to tell me when you're going to use a word like that,'" Couric said. "I was aggravated, there's no question about that." "I sort of slapped him around," she said. Sputum, which refers to expectorated matter especially from the air passages in diseases of the lungs, bronchi or upper respiratory tract, was banned from future broadcasts. So were words over 10 letters longs. But Couric said she has a good relationship with Cipriano. "It became kind of a joke," she said. |

Katie needs a sign off moniker, something like "Onward Through the Fog!", or "Good night, Farewell, and Don't Let the Bedbugs Bite Your Ass."
Something along those general lines. |

Katie had a colonoscopy on TV. A tube was stuck up her rectum and she showed the nation the inside of her colon but she won't say sputum?
