The amusing but totally insignificant LMS is looking at Picture, and Supporting Actor/Actress nominations (Alda and Breslin). It won't win anything though, thank god, unless it pulls out a screenplay victory.

Nicholson's being pushed in Supporting. Best Actor at this point is favored to go to Peter O'Toole, Actress to Mirren. Kate Winslet's probably gonna just miss out on a nom.

I am so pathetic this year, I have not seen a single one of these movies. But, when they come out on DVD, I will be renting madly since my crippled ass won't be leaving the house once the snow starts flying.
And Whatevia at the Oscars would be fucking awesome! Go Boomie! |

Haylie Duff for her searing performance in "Material Girls" is a shoo-in.
And Tim Allen will likely be nominated for his role in "Zoom". |

I heard Leo might be up for a Leading Actor nod with Blood Diamond and get a Supporting Actor nod for The Departed. I don't think the Academy allows an actor to be nominated more than once in the same category during the same year.
And if Marty doesn't win that directing Oscar and they give it to someone like Clint (who's already got like, ten thousand of them) then I'm gonna be extremely pissed! WTF, you guys! Give the damn Oscar to Marty already! |

I personally hope Marty loses for the sake of laughing :).
The list posted before about potential nominees is just ALL wrong. Definitely OUT for Best Picture: Flags of our Fathers. This movie has been panned and forgotten. Bye bye. Also, to a lesser extent, World Trade Center. I can see Paramount campaigning hard, but the ONLY nom I see for it is Gyllenhaal. Leading actor: The Departed is campaigning all its actors supporting. Granted, they might not all go there, but they're fighting for mainly Leo & Jack there. Leo's more likely to go lead for Blood Diamond. And are you forgetting Peter O'Toole? If anyone actually sees his movie, he's a potential nominee. He's gotten quite a lot of buzz. Though I despise the whole idea of the movie- the Borat guy's gotten a lot of buzz too. Leading actress: Annette Bening is OUT. Her movie sucked. And, personally, she sucks too. Streep also might go supporting... but I think it'd be smarter to campaign her as lead, since the supporting races are pretty tight this year. Where is Dench and Dunst though? Dunst has actually got a lot of supporters, whereas the academy just adores Dench. Supporting actor: Not much objection here. Though I think Earle Haley's got a bigger shot. I also hear that McAvoy and Sheen are more "lead" roles- but the academy sometimes ignores that fact (Connelly & A Beautiful Mind). Supporting actress: This is my biggest problem... Toni fucking Collette? Abigail Breslin LEADING THE PACK? Jennifer Hudson fourth? Sandra fucking Bullock? And sorry, but Shareeka Epps ain't got no chance. Where are Kikuchi, Barraza, and Gyllenhaal? And the possibility of Streep? Sharon Stone? Hell, Demi Moore's got a chance over Bullock + Collette. As for the documentaries- I'm seeing Deliver Us From Evil or An Inconvenient Truth taking that home. Honestly, they're the only ones I've even heard about and looking a few of them up, apparently the only ones that were actually good. |

If you want an accurate picture of the likely nominees, check out the forums on Oscarwatch.com. The guy who runs the site is totally off on his predictions - either he hasn't updated in a while, or he's nuts.
Anyway, I really, really think that they'll push Jennifer Hudson for Best Supporting Actress. a) She's almost guaranteed an Oscar that way. b) Beyonce isn't likely to let some unknown be nominated for lead while she gets put in supporting. And no, to whoever asks, Toni Collette isn't being predicted by anybody except that one guy to be nominated. |

The Asian girl from Babel and the Mexican woman need to be nominated or its all for naught. They were stunning in the movie. I was absolutely floored by each of them. And Brad Pitt. Those three all need to make it in. Cate Blanchett didn't have much to do. Anyways, obviously I loved that movie.
The Departed was great too, especially Leo. He needs to be nominated. |
