Leo lost to Tommy Lee Jones in the Fugitive, so yes I would say he got robbed.

Best Picture: The Departed and most likely The Queen are locks. Personally I am upset with the buzz that Dreamgirls is getting, but in a different sort of way- I'm into looking forward to a movie and everything, but I don't like it when I see so many people put it way up on their predictions list when they didn't even see it (this was before the recent premiere screening). I will see it, and by the sound of things, it will be great, but I'll wait until it gets closer to Christmas to put it anywhere officially on a list.
Best Director: Right now it is Scorsese's to lose, but the year isn't over. Bill Condon for Dreamgirls will also most likely be nominated, and could snag the win if enough people get behind him and the buzz keeps going for his film. I'm also interested to see what De Niro does with The Good German, but I'm not sure if it will even lead to a nomination. Also interesting to watch is if Eastwood will get a nomination, but even if he does, he won't win it this time. Best Actor: It's a 3-way race between Leo, Peter, and Forest. I heard about a month or so ago that Forest's performance was truly brilliant, but now the same thing is being said about O'Toole. Best Actress: There have been two recent Oscars that were locks for not only nominations, but also wins. Those would be Jamie Foxx (Ray in 2004) and last year's Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Capote). Helen Mirren is the third person in a row for a locked win. It's hers. Best Supporting Actor: Nicholson should be placed here, since I did think he was more supporting than lead, and very good at it. Wahlberg could also be in here. The category is still up for the taking, as I don't think Nicholson is quite a lock yet. Best Supporting Actress: Not too sure here either, but due to recent buzz, it sounds like Jennifer Hudson will get it if the studio is smart enough to place her here. Like others have said, she will lose if she goes into the Best Actress race. Quote: Robert Altman made similar comments at the previous Oscars. |

Quote: Also, as much as people like to pretend she wasn't, Charlize Theron (Monster in 2003) was pretty much a lock. No one compared to her that year. Personally, part of me wants Helen Mirren to lose just because I want to be shocked. I'd like to see Cruz take it home. |

I'd like to see both Damon and Dicaprio nominated. As much as I've praised DiCaprio's performance, I thought Damon was great too. Best work since Talented Mr. Ripley.

Quote: I wouldn't worry. If they're going to give an unlikely comedian a best actor nomination, it will probably be Sasha Baron Cohen. There's a VERY good chance he'll win best actor in a musical/comedy at the Golden Globes. |

Gael Garcia Bernal
it may have been short, but it was magnificient, like everything he ever does. The man is a chameleon, and he only gets better and better. I love Sacha too, he's so unique, and now I do the double thumbs up all the time with a high five. Helen Mirren will win Best Actress. Doesn't matter how good any other woman is this year, everybody has just been waiting for the role they could give her the Oscar, one of the greatest actresses that ever was. And I couldn't stand the Queen herself (not the movie, but the person she's portraying, what a creep), which is a testament to her incredible acting. some info on Gael who I consider one of the best actors to come along in years: Quote: |

Sasha wont get an Oscar nomination. Since he takes Borat out on talk shows -- and its basically a television characters. Actors with serious Oscar chances rarely try to replicate their character offscreen for fear of it seeming like 'an impression'. I saw an interview with Phillip Seymour Hoffman where he had people come up to him at parties and ask him to 'do' Truman Capote, which he refused.

I just got back from Little Children, and I can say fairly confidently that Kate Winslet will not be getting a nomination. She's not horrible, but there's no actor in the world who could shine in that appalling excuse for a film.
Cohen is brilliant, but I can't see him getting nominated. Frankly, if the nominees aren't O'Toole, Whitaker, DiCaprio, Gosling and Smith, I'll be surprised. There's just no one else that really seems likely. |

Quote: I forgot about Roberts. Though her performance wasn't near the best of the year in leading actresses, she won fucking everything. And Reese... not so much, though she did win most everything she was nominated for. Felicity Huffman had a pretty strong case for herself, and though I didn't get the buzz at all, she had a lot of supporters (who I think just didn't want Reese to win). Quote: Most of the reviews beg to differ. She's Kate Winslet. That alone gets her nominated. |

Re: The 79th Academy Awards (Feb 25, 2007) | ||
Quote:While it's true that most of the reviews differ with my take on Little Children, critical consensus rarely has anything to do with Oscars. A movie that the critics hate isn't going to get noticed (usually), but critics loving a movie (or a performance) is hardly a sign of its award chances. Winslet's buzz has been fading steadily since the movie debuted. And as for "She's Kate Winslet. That alone gets her nominated," I would say: Finding Neverland, The Life of David Gale, Quills, Jude. The movie's not likely to get nominated anywhere else, so I question the support for it. I'm not totally ruling her out, since I have to leave room for my own bias (Little Children really is just awful) shaping my predictions, but she's not a lock by a long shot. Quote:Reese was pretty much a lock. Huffman posed a minor threat, but it was never really serious. The Oscar was Reese's as soon as the movie opened. |

Winslet was a total beyotch on Leno Friday night. She acted like she was so much better than him & criticized his questions. All he did was ask her about Porche making a new model inspired by her & she got very snippy after that.
Anyway, the clip they had of Little Children showed her speaking in a perfect middle American dialect. Anytime a British actor does that the critics go nuts for it. |

Quote: Eastwood winning Best Director? Adam Beach winning Best Supporting Actor? Both of them would be very lucky just to be nominated. And Cate Blanchett will probably be nominated for Notes on a Scandal, but she doesn't have a chance for Babel - she's barely in it. |
