You know one thing that bugs me about Kate Winslet? That she's always saying how she's proud that she's heavier and curvier than the Hollywood sticks, etc. etc. While that's true, she's also more gorgeous than 99% of the general population, so I find her "I'm a real woman" act a little tiresome.

I will throw up if I have to see Annette's smug face when she loses again.

I suspect Kate Winslet comes off as snobby at times because of her accent. I think she's fairly genuine as far as actors go. I'm happy to see her having an average body and natural boobs. But does she have to show it/them off in every movie she does?
I haven't seen Little Children yet but I'm sure she's good. She's my favorite actress, and has been for a while. Helen Mirren is taking it home this year so it doesn't really matter who else is nominated. Sucks will be ecstatic when when Boomie takes home her Oscar. I will be crying along with her while she accepts. |

It would not surprise at all if many of the British actors are nominated, the Americans always seem to be in awe of them. It would also be nice if we saw more Latino-Americans nominated but the only one I saw mentioned is Penelope Cruz, which is too bad, because I would like to see more of them nominated. Almovadar (sp?) should be nominated for Best director for Volver, though, because he's always done a superb job.
As for documentaries, Al Gore's documentary (I forgot the name of it) has been submitted for nomination, and in the wake of so much attentioon on the environment, the Oscars are probably going to go a little green and at least nominate it if not to allow it to win. Although I do think it does deserve to win. |

Quote: There are other Latino/as with chances of being nominated. Adriana Barazza for Babel and Carmen Maura for Volver both have good shots. It's possible (albeit not that likely) that Gael Garcia Bernal could be nominated for The Science of Sleep or Babel. |

I liked "Babel" even tho it was Crash 2, because it kept me interested all through it, and the performances were all great. I thought the critics were all raving about "Bobby," won't that get lots of nominations?

There's not much info on Bobby, but it could get a best picture nod. Nothing else, though, probably. That's the movie that really looks like this year's Crash to me (in quality, not awards potential). Although Babel was pretty close.

Annette can't be nominated. Not unless Hilary pulled out a oscar worthy performance.

That's about it though. The best thing I've heard about Bobby is that it's "good, but flawed". Everything else has been baaad.

I see over 200 films a year, and this year is a piece of cake to pick....Here is how the winners will go..
Best Picture - Dreamgirls Best Director - Martin Scorsese "The Departed" - They will throw him the bone, finally. Best Actress - Please......this has been a lock since Mirren first looked at the camera during filming. Best Actor - Peter O'Toole "Venus" - Buzz might be more with Forest Whitaker right now, but mark my words...O'Toole WILL win this thing. Best Supporting Actress - Can't believe that Boomie will actually win an Oscar, but she will...It is a weak category this year, and the Academy loves to give Supporting to the ingenues. Hudson will win. Best Supporting Actor - Eddie Murphy - Dreamgirls. The Academy would love to give him one, ala Robin Williams for a showy, more serious role (Although it doesn't look that serious) |

Did anyone else see "Hollywoodland?" Not a perfect movie but it had a seriously career salvaging performance by Ben Affleck. There's a scene at the end of a home movie him doing karate moves which ends with him giving a look of total exhaustion and burnout that he just did perfectly. IMO he should get the Supporting Actor award.

This is posted over at the AI board too, but if anyone is interested, Oprah is supposed to have the cast of "Dreamgirls" on her show today.
