Mantracker season 2 on OLN |
Lead | |
|
Was just wondering if anybody watched this show. It's on Mondays at 9pm (EST) on OLN (least here in Canada) and it's basically a show where two people have 36 hours to cover 40-50 kilometres on foot while being chased by a tracker (who's referred to as Mantracker, per the show's title) who's on horseback and got a guide as well. They two people are called "Prey" and have a 3km head start. Saw episode 1 of the new season last night, and I have to say it was REALLY good and changing it from a half hour show to an hour really lets you get to know the Prey a lot more. To those that haven't seen it, I'd really recommend that you check it out.

Yeah, the prey are often stupid, but they're paired up this season as already knowing each other. I have to admit, I was starting to get pissed at Chris in last night's for coming across as kind of useless and holding Brock back. Though, you couldn't help but want Brock to make it to the finish line (even if he DID have to cover 7km by himself in like...2 hours). Seeing him go from being all cocky (flipping off Mantracker as they're staring at each other through binoculars, and taunting Mantracker after he bailed off the side of the trail and down a hill) to panicking like hell, to realizing that there's no way in HELL he's going to get away, yet not surrendering (and having that annoyed but defeated "you son of a bitch" look on his face when he WAS captured 2km from the finish) gave a lot of sympathy to him I thought.

Yes! I'm so glad that this show is back. I was wondering when season 2 would start airing. I guess I'll catch it next monday night then.
So they've gotten rid of the no previous relationship rule, that's good to hear. It kind of sucked before how one althetic, strong prey would be paired with a weak one, causing them both to eventually lose. |

Just because the prey know each other doesn't mean that won't still be the case though. In fact, even though the two from the first episode this season were friends, Chris still held back Brock because he happened to drop the cigs he smoked behind him at first, AND because he wasn't really in shape. And even then, Brock made it 5 kilometres after his teammate got caught.

Mantracker was filming up in near Whitehorse recently, and went into a bar my friend serves at. After hitting on her, he invited her back to his room. She obviously didn't go, but still, Mantracker is a dirty old man! Heh. This show is pretty cool though.

That's kinda funny but creepy at the same time. I wonder if he's a loud or a quiet drunk.

Since Episode Two's going to be on tomorrow night at 9pm, I thought I'd do an episode preview.
Season Two, Episode Two: Shannon and Stephanie Bond: Longtime Friends Friendships are tested, phobias are confronted and egos are on the line in the unforgiving Alberta wilderness. Shannon and Stephanie are bush smart, competitive athletes and close friends. Theyre also moms out to smash some perceptions: just because you look great doesnt mean you cant bust it in the bush. But Mantrackers hungrier than ever he lost to a team of two women last season, so hes got both bragging rights and redemption on the line.         Shannon Leroux Age: 35 Hometown: Mississauga, Ontario Occupation: Figure Athlete, Voice Artist & Actor Bio Fact: Shannon was a ground to air Javelin Missile System Operator with the Canadian Military, and is a Pro Member of the International Federation of Body Builders.                         Stephanie Bigras Age: 39 Hometown: Sarnia, Ontario Occupation: Engineering Technician Bio Fact: Stephanie plays competitive womens hockey and competitive fastball, and never, ever loses her cool. Shes a mom of two and claims shes never missed a pedicure. Opinion: Keeping in mind the fact that out of all the people last season, 2 mallrat chicks managed to be the only people to reach the finish line (by hitching a ride in a car, no less), I can't rule these two out and say that they don't have much chance of making it to the end. However, I can guess that they don't have that much in the "Outdoor Experience" category, and my thought is that Stephanie, due to her age (and despite probably having good stats in the "Athletics" category), she'll probably hold her partner back. My thought now is that Stephanie's going to get captured. Whether or not Shannon does, I'm not sure yet. |

For those that watch this (like me):
Mantracker S2, Episode 3: Dustin and Ian, Prey Analysis Two fierce athletes who thrive on competition challenge Mantracker to a battle of strength, focus and determination in the wild remote wilderness of Grande Cache. Dustin and Ian, childhood friends and Ultimate Frisbee teammates refuse to let fear and dehydration curb their quest for glory but a hungry Mantracker wont be deterred by their savvy diversions or upstanding fitness. Will the hunters skills triumph over the preys unrelenting competitive nature or will Dustin and Ian be diminished by a devastating defeat? Dustin Demille Age: 27 Hometown: Oakville, Ontario Occupation: Technical Services Manager Bio Fact: Dustin is an all round athlete possessed with a relentless thirst for victory. When hes not knocking heads on the Frisbee field he kicks back in his Volkswagen Westfalia named Roadie. opinion: Does playing Ultimate Frisbee count as "outdoor experience"? If so, then he'll probably have a good amount of it. It's pretty obvious that he'll be ranked high in "athletic ability", so he's probably going to be a pretty fast runner. Let's just hope he's not dumb enough to start yelling out "dude! Where are you?!" if he loses Ian, like the last two people did. Ian Lawson Age: 27 Hometown: North Bay, Ontario Occupation: Teacher Bio Fact: Ian is a competition junkie. He plays competitive Ultimate Frisbee and says theres nothing better than the rush that comes with winning. opinion: They may him sound a bit more reckless than Dustin is, and he'll probably be about even with him in terms of athletic ability and outdoor experience. I get the feeling that even though he should be smarter than Dustin, he'll be a little bit of a showoff. Caught/Not: Unsure. While I'd like to be able to say that these guys avoid capture and get away, I can't really because I'm not sure just HOW fit Ultimate Frisbee makes someone. Also, what I'd imagine to be a lack of outdoor experience will probably hinder them. Still, I'm expecting a bit of a positive surprise from them in the way of those things so they could probably avoid capture, I just can't say it with confidence at the moment. |

I watched Episode 2 of this. Very interesting show. It's like TAR meets No Boundaries.

Episode 3 was great. I love it when the prey play mind games with Mantracker, but don't taunt him too excessively. I loved that they shook hands at the end. I've only watched this episode so far this season, so I haven't seen episode 1 or 2, but is the guide getting much more screentime this season? Last year the guides were always ignored for the most part, but this time the guide got a lot of screentime - maybe even more than Mantracker himself.
One thing I didn't like in the episode editing-wise was that one moment in the middle where they went slow mo after Dustin & Ian's first night. What the heck was that?! Anyway, I did like that they added an H20 meter, even though it's somewhat gimmicky, but still, a nice touch. |

Wow, uh....didn't expect that.
Anyway, episode 4 was really good to. Was funny how the one couldn't really hear Mantracker about 10 feet behind him. But man...those two were damn near maxed out on the athletic ability and outdoor experience meters. |

Any body else watching this? Do they really not get anything for finishing? It seems to me they should get something instead of bragging rights.
Anyway, every week I watch this and see a pair of Canadians get captured by the Mantracker but this week there is a Canadian with an Aussie and the Canadian gets captured but the Aussie makes it to the finish line. Are the Canadians just not very good bushwhackers! Even though she was captured, that was one tough woman! |

I used to love this show until I found out that the original 'Mantracking' is all done off camera because the camera crews following the contestants
through the woods would expose them easier to Mantracker.
Once the scenario has played itself out, they all go back to the start and "re-create" the scenes for the television show. After I found this out it completely ruined the show for me. Not sure if it will do the same for you, but thought you may like to know. There is a disclaimer at the end of the credits that confirms this. |

yeah I figured it had to happen that way. Still pretty interesting though.
and if they do it twice, that just makes them even tougher. Just like when I do it twice...man am I tired |

I just discovered this show a few weeks ago. I enjoy it. I was wondering about the camera guys, and how that could possibly be fair, so it makes sense that
they recreate it.
My fave ep was the one with the two models, who managed to not leave tracks, and confused Mantracker. I think one of them ended up crossing the finish line. |

I know the Chris & Brock episode is old... but I just started watching the show and just saw that episode this week. I've seen some pretty lame prey in
this show (and some amazing prey)... but these two take the cake.
Why why why are you carrying a gigantic machete? How did hauling those giant things along help you in any way whatsoever? Reminds me of another episode where some fool was carrying a giant axe the whole time. What that? I guess when your only outdoor experience consists of a walk in a city park... you end up getting your ideas about gear from Crocodile Dundee. Second... Chris was so foul, rude and disrespectful. Dropping the f-bomb just about every sentence. Pretty crude. But what really took the cake was him constantly disrespecting Mantracker and calling him a hick, etc. You might be from the city... but you are 100X more of a "hick" than Mantracker. And talk about being out of shape. Good lord. 20 seconds of a light jog and he's winded?! What made this lazy, obese urban hick think he could do this? The only explanation I can think of is breathtaking ignorance and arrogance. |
