Pushing Daises has gotten a lot of heat. I guess it's all in the execution.

Looking at all of the ideas for new shows coming for the 07-08 season, I didn't realize that the early part of this season had a truly amazing caliber of shows. Is it just me thinking this, or did the ideas behind this past year's pilots have a much higher quality than those of most other years?

From what I've read I might check a few out, but have found none that I consider seriously adding to my tv viewing experience...

I was reading through the list on page one and I came across
Waterfront as officially cancelled. This is the only show on the list I never even heard of. What the hell was it? It's very strange for me to have not even heard about a show. |

Quote: I agree. Love DEXTER, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, BROTHERS AND SISTERS and HEROES. There were also some really good shows that just didn't catch on like SIX DEGREES. |

Quote: It was initially picked up as a mid-season show, but from what I gather the next couple of episodes turned out so bad that CBS decided to cancel it quite a few months before it ever would have aired. |

I'm actually really excited about Pushing Daisies - Bryan Fuller (Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me and writer of one of Hereoes' best episodes, Company Man) and Lee Pace (Aaron from Wonderfalls)? Yay! I just hope they don't end up scheduling it against Babylon Fields - Amber Tamblyn appears to be Fuller's personal kryptonite.

On Thursdays CSI I sure thought they were setting the stage for a CSI: Philadelphia.

EOnline is the only source reporting Amazing Race has been picked up. Unless they have an inside source, there'd be a lot more confirmation if the show had been picked up. Plus the article had several Amazing Race facts wrong in it so I wouldn't trust it just yet. But it got over 10.5 million viewers in the finale so you have to think it's safe.

Can you really see The Amazing Race being canceled after The Apprentice being renewed?
Sure, different networks and all, but still. |

Lipstick Jungle stars Brooke Shields. I think it's supposed to be a sort of SATC/Devil Wears Prada hybrid.

Which, in turn, is a lot like ABC's pilot "Cashmere Mafia" -- starring Lucy Liu, Miranda Otto, Frances O'Connor, and Bonnie Sommerville.
'Jungle' is from SATC writer Candace Bushnell, which of course SJP's character was based; 'Mafia' is from Darren Starr, creator of SATC. Apparently both Bushnell and Starr were working on a 'Jungle' adaptation for NBC last pilot season, but when it wasn't picked up, and ordered to be re-worked, Starr bailed and made 'Mafia' for ABC, now creating some bad blood between the two. Bushnell has the upper-hand, however; apparently 'Jungle' is the far superior project. 'Mafia' is supposed to be OK, just nowhere near the quality of 'Jungle'. |

Looks like ABC's pilot options have narrowed down to, in order of most-to-least likely:
Drama - Dirty Sexy Money - Private Practice (Addison spin-off) - Football Wives - Perfect Gentlemen - Pushing Daisies - Marlowe - Eli Stone - Cashmere Mafia Expect 6-to-all 8 of these getting picked up, some held for midseason of course. *Women's Murder Club was considered a strong contender until recent testing on a re-worked pilot went poorly. It could still sneak in, but not likely. And on the comedy side (also in order)... Comedy - Sam I Am - Family of the Year - The Middle - American Family - The Thick of It - Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office - Cavemen Just six days away! NBC, ABC, FOX, then CBS I believe is the order. |
