Way too bland, totally trying to appeal to 65 year olds.

I confess, I love their morning show rather than the network morning shows. I like the banter they have and they don't take themselves so seriously. Katie Couric makes me barf.

Anecdote | ||
|
I've got a friend who works for Chris Matthews in New Jersey (he tapes his show in Washington, but his show's research staff is in New Jersey).
Anyways, this friend told me that, about a year ago, only two "stories" were pulling viewers in any kind of numbers: The war in Iraq, and Laci Peterson. Chris Matthews is said to have come down hard on his staff: "I hate talking about the war, give me more Laci..." So, my friend says, "for the whole summer we were trying to discover new Laci Peterson stories. Darn, if there was actually any "news" there, we just kept plugging out more Laci." I just thought that was funny. |

Hmm I believe your friend was really passing off a lie as a joke because I watched Mathews heavily during the Iraq conflict. The guy who stars in "the Abram's Report" is the one who does a lot of coverage on Laci Peterson

Actually, I remember when the Chandra Levy-Gary Condit deal was going on, Chrissy Matthews was on it, night after night after night. And heaven forbid if a guest ever disagreed with him that THIS WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY EVER!!!!!!!!!!
I got the impression that Matthews was disappointed that 9/11 pushed Levy/Condit completely off the radar. Post edited due to lingering jet lag |

I remember Chris doing Chandra/Condit stuff, but I really don't remember him doing that much of the Laci Peterson stuff. Maybe I wasn't watching.
I like his interviewing style and how he just keeps hammering away. That doesn't work for everyone and I wouldn't expect it to, but it works for him. Sometimes it seems like he keeps pushing until he gets the answer he wants and other times it seems like he's trying to help someone get the point across that they're trying to push. I kind of enjoyed watching him interview the guy that is running against Arlen Spector in the PA senate race. He was questioning him about his intent regarding abortion and what would he want to happen to a woman who had an abortion in the event that it became illegal. The guy just stammered around muttering something about going after the doctor and Chris kept asking him what he would do to the woman and he never did get an answer from him. |

"binladenforprez2004" wants Kerry to be Prez...
Imagine that! How appropriate! Reason enough to vote for Bush. |

Re: If... | ||
Quote: what ??? ... bin Laden has done great with Bush as President 1) bin Laden was able to cause the biggest terrorist attack in U.S. history (on Aug 6th of 2001, Bush got a memo "bin Laden determined to strike in U.S." - a memo Bush and Condi Rice said was "vague" 2) bin Laden wanted the U.S. military out of Saudi Arabia ... guess what, Bush quietly yanked them out 3) bin Laden wanted "non-Islamic" leaders like Saddam Hussian out so he can start and speading Taliban-like governments ... and Bush has done that 4) bin Laden wanted to prove to the Arab world that the U.S. is a force of evil and no better than Saddam and the Abu Ghraib prison photos did more to prove that then anything bin Laden could have said or done 5) bin Laden also wants a President not interested in finding him and Bush said: "I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." George W. Bush, March 13, 2002 a vote for Bush is a vote for bin Laden |

Chris Interview of Edwards | ||
|
I saw a newsclip today of a 2003 interview of Edwards by Chris on the campus of the University of North Carolina. It was obviously done just before the Iraq ground war began in early April last year. Chris asks, point blank, "Even though we do not have the backing of our traditional allies, they won't be joining us in this effort, if you were president, would you still proceed with the planned regime change operation?"
Edwards, "Yes, I would make the decision to go ahead with the allies we have now, Yes, I would have us go in alone". Interesting because TODAY in a speech, he said ". . . so that no young American ever goes to war needlessly because America has decided to go it alone", or something along those lines. Yahoo, another flip flopper, the perfect running mate for Kerry. |
