The Top 40 Movies of the last 10 years according to the (admittedly fanboyish and dubious) IMDB Top 250.
All movies I chooose are american. Also I didn't consider Grindhouse a movie, it's more like a double feature and experience. #1Shawshank #2 LOTR ROTK #3 LOTR FOTR #4 The Usual Suspects #5 LOTR TTT #6 Memento #7 Fight Club #8 The Matrix #9 American Beauty #10 The Departed #11 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind #12 The Pianist #13 L.A. Confidential #14 Requiem for a Dream #15 Saving Private Ryan #16 Titanic #17 Hotel Rwanda #18 Sin City #19 The Prestige #20 Batman Begins #21 Million Dollar Baby #22 Kill Bill Vol. 1 #23 Donnie Darko #24 Hot Fuzz #25 The Incredibles #26 Children of Men #27 Finding Nemo #28 The Sixth Sense #29 V For Vendetta #30 Letters From Iwo Jima #31 The Green Mile #32 Crash #33 Gladiator #34 Kill Bill Vol. 2 #35 Little Miss Sunshine #36 Knocked Up #37 The Big Lebowski #38 Toy Story 2 #39 Zodiac #40 Snatch First off I will take out ALL movies made in 2007 because they never do that, it has to have been under Oscar consideration. All movies that are sequels. Comic book movies Low scores with people over 45. Lower scoring Pixar films, Finding Nemo scored slightly less but grossed FAR, FAR more cash for it's studio so it wins. Box office was the deciding factor in the top 16, except Shawshank kept it's spot despite being a pathetic grosser because it was #1 on IMDB on the top 10 years it was exempted. Here is my attempt at a top 10 predictions for the academy to make: #1 Shawshank #2 Titanic #3 Finding Nemo (yes, Nemo, IMO they need a Pixar movie for pioneering CG animated film) #4 LOTR FOTR #5 The Sixth Sense (have a weird feeling about this, remember it was HUGE) #6 Saving Private Ryan #7 Gladiator #8The Departed #9Million Dollar Baby #10 L.A. Confidential Academy please remove these 10 films: Bonnie and Clyde Midnight Cowboy The Best Years of Our Lives An American in Paris Shane Wuthering Heights Dances With Wolves Giant A Place in the Sun Yankee Doodle Dandy |

And Raging Bull is not the fourth best. That's ridiculous. |

A great list. Much better than the last one. Everything wrong with that one was "righted" here. So happy that Singin' in the Rain moved up, The General got recognized and that Vertigo, City Lights and Raging Bull moved up to more rightful spots.
Yep, Best Years of Our Lives was still there and The Third Man not, but oh well. More good than bad. I was giddy for the first hour! |
