OMG thanks for posting that Klazzy! ArteTV ran the couturier series a few years ago but i missed most of it and had been wanting to see it in its entirety. the doc is very informative but Karl working is not as much fun to watch – though i found it comedic that they'd cue dramatic music whenever he entered a frame. he needs a show full of candid moments, in relaxed or pomp social settings when he is exposed for his "you lack my refinement" haughtiness, fanciful treatises against mediocrity, and Dorian Gray-like transgressions. giddy/lascivious/transfixed whilst flirting with pain aestheticizing DiorHomme goth boys who view themselves as emissaries of death. he had grown too old to feel his own youthful alienation and now it gets him off that these boys take fascism and reduce it to an artistic stance + sexual fetish, snorting it like cocaine before a BDSM session.

damn their women's division suck so hard. Hannah, the winner, resembles that obnoxious heifer from the BBUK race row. runners up Kelly the redhead was aight but too short for my liking and it's unfortunate that Bri has what Becky refers to as "canoe chin".

yeah that's always been the problem with their women's div – they need to do some serious streamlining and drop the flotsam. but the agency is loyal to fault – trends+marketplace dictate, so it's an odd thing in such an ephemeral biz to keep models+clients for ages. if you disregard all the superficial rankings on mdc, ff, modelhommes, and especially the annoying fashion ignorant blowhards at televisionwithoutpity LOL, Wilhelmina is tops in generating revenue. in addition to representing the bulk of male supermodels, a huge percentage of celeb campaigns (from L'Oreal to Revlon to Versace to Missoni to Gap to RL and so on so forth) were negotiated by their WAM division.

their women's board sucks because their scouting system falls short in comparison to international powerhouses like Elite, Ford, IMG, and even Next. the fact that they don't have the women's market cornered and they haven't established a distinct "look identity" for their girls is also a contributing factor. female modeling industry is a lucrative one so of course there's a lot more competition on that end. most clients would rather go to tightly edited boutique agencies like Women/Supreme, Marilyn or DNA for all their "of the moment" high fashion girls to make their vision clearer.

currently, i can only think of 2 girls getting hype from this season:



eta: just for clarification, their commercial print ad dept does extremely well in the international sector. high fashion work gets you the prestige+exposure but commercial jobs will always be the bread+butter of the business. it's why Wilhelmina has survived for decades.

it's frustrating to watch this because Wilhelmina has the resources, the international platform, roster of girls with so much potential but people that should be developing, promoting, marketing them don't give a flying fuck. and you guys saw their pathetic scouting process. it's evident why they're prime targets for model poaching. Elite and Ford were in similarly precarious financial situation in the late 80's (although Elite had it worse with their dirtyoldmensolicitingsexfromunderagemodelsscandal) and they were able to get their act together under new management and still keep up with the times. Gerald Marie is a total asswipe but he's ruthless in his drive to keep Elite relevant with his sphere of influence.

nyc agents/bookers like Paul+Mohammed+Chris (Women/Supreme) <3, Jen+Anne+Maja (IMG) <3, Louis+David (DNA) <3, Scott+Steve (One) <3 put these lazy+unmotivated wankers at Wilhelmina to shame. with much fortitude, they've established close relationships with the biggest clients in business to promote their company brand and secure bookings for their models. they can take the raw talent of a girl and lay the necessary groundwork to make her into a star. thank goodness Wilhelmina's high-end mens have a firm grasp of the power of PR when leveraging new faces+major deals for the agency.

lol that was odd but in all fairness to Greg, the TH casting sent notices of wanting "nonchalant, melancholy, whip-thin sophisticated euro type or Kent-ish boarding school lad" which is often translated as refined aristocratic features, bloodless+emaciated, cadaverous androgyne. in an attempt to reach euro market, they were trying to deviate from their standard all american fratboy/preppy look and that's what they get.
