No Papa, the neighbor lady is needed to help transition the family into the Riches home & lifestyle. She's the warm, welcoming lady who dishes out just enough information to help make it believable that the family can just move in & take over.

THAT's who the neighbor lady was. Like Fluffy I knew I'd seen her before but couldn't remember where; Million Dollar Baby!

I think Fluffy saw a different show than we did, Papa. I hope the neighbor lady has a wicked past that helps make her part of one of their scams.

Loved the pill-supplying neighbor lady, who also let on that she acquired her lock-picking skills somewhere but she'd rather not elaborate. Perhaps the development is filled with ne'er-do-wells?
Also, I think preggers woman said that it was Dale (the apparently retard cousin of Minnie/Dahlia, and the son of bell-ringing Earl) who had promised M/D's daughter to preggers woman's family. Minnie Driver--what a face that actress has. And jeez what a presence. I worry she would have been ruined by being Barbra Streisand's daughter-in-law. |

Quote: I've never understood why her career dropped off so dramatically. Hopefully, this will give her a much needed boost. When you can overcome cornrows and no make-up, and not have it "take over" your performance, you deserve some credit. |

To me, the show was meh.
It is billed as a comedy, but I didn't laugh one time. Well, except when the guy came way too fast. And Izzard's accent needs work. He's no Hugh Laurie. |

Not billed as a comedy. In fact, the link to the website says the new F/X DRAMA.

I loved this show. The opening was good. The reunion, kids in on the con. Mama gettin' outta jail. What did the little kid do to the cop when they got pulled over (before they got Dahlia)? They said he was secret squirrel? Did he steal stuff from the cop? Definitely some confusing moments but I'm in!
The pregnant sister did look like Jaime Pressley. I'm sure it wasn't her though. The neighbor is definitely sinister. She has her own secrets. She didn't even blink an eye when all that money came out of the lawn chair cushion. Oh, to have lawn furniture lke that! I rooting for those Riches! |

And she had the lock-picking thing on her key ring!
I'm still wondering what the kid in the cops car was doing too. |

Here's the ratings report. Hopefully, it can hold it to the audience:
Riches," a drama starring Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as con artists, averaged 3.8 million total viewers and 2.5 million adults 18-49 in its debut at 10 p.m., according to Nielsen Media Research. Those figures put it just ahead of FX's previous series premiere, "Dirt," on January 2 (3.7 million total viewers, 2.4 million in adults 18-49). An encore episode of "Riches" at 11:10 p.m. delivered 1.4 million total viewers and nearly 800,000 in the demo. "Riches" also performed slightly better than the series premiere of FX's "Nip/Tuck" in July 2003 (3.7 million) but was off when compared with the series debuts of "The Shield" (4.8 million in March 2002), "Rescue Me" (4.1 million in July 2004) and the network's short-lived "Over There" (4.1 million in July 2005). However, FX pointed out that the debut of "Riches" marked the first time that the network has launched a show on a Monday night and that the episode more than doubled FX's previous best delivery in the Monday 10-11 p.m. hour in total viewers and 18-49. In adults 18-49, the performance of "Riches" ranks as the network's second-best series premiere, behind "The Shield" (3 million). It also came in as No. 1 in the demo among all basic cable entertainment programs in primetime Monday. FX is planning to run the series debut again at 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 p.m. Sunday. |

Real-life transvestite Eddie Izzard having a TV Land transvestite son = pretty darn funny in my book

I don't think they have the category "black comedy" yet on most DVRs.

I thought of it as a black comedy/dramedy (a comedy with dark elements or a drama with humor).

It's a comedy if you consider Nip/Tuck or Rescue Me a comedy. Clearly not, it's a drama with funny moments, same as most. Dramedy would be close, black comedy closer still.

My sweet Eddie..(yes I've had and mostly used this avi a looooooooooong time) ~he never does anything easy.
For instance..anyone here ever catch the short mini-series "40" he did for Channel 4 in Britian? Dark, edgey, comedic. Very intense material. I just wish HBO or Showtime had picked this up..not FX. The reviews are so mixed and the material has such potential..but I am afraid American audiences will not appreciate what a genious he is. Loved the scene where he was staring at his youngest son's drawing(s) on the wall. Eddie was able to project so many emotions in his facial expressions alone. I hope the show does well...but keeping my fingers crossed. I don't know much about FX and if they tend to dummy down a show after awhile, etc. |

The kids drawing was awesome, I wish there was an image of it online.
This show is a drama-comedy just like 6 Feet Under was. |
