How very un-metal.
Of course, maybe Macy will sport a mohawk for the occasion.

Positively sweet. This looks like it will be a true "Rock Star" season.
Haven't heard anything from this Clark fellow, and I've heard very little from Tommy Lee. But Newstead is an awesome bass player. |

So lemme get this straight, we have a random group of sidemen from famous rock bands looking for a singer. On TV. And there will be some ringers from last season. There's gonna have to be a LOT of good music for this to hook me like last season did.

Sweet Suzie McNeil!!
I loved her on the first season. She was the ultimate underdog with the great voice. She is in serious need of a band to front. Of course, having previous finalists on the show could be a way of having a known quantity to fall back on. Suzie was great. Mig had his fans (not me). Marty, unfortunately, has his own band and probably won't be back. And let's just hope that drama queen Ty isn't invited. |

The thing about inviting season 1 singers back is that most of them already have a fanbase of sorts. I can never picture voting for anyone other than Suzie, so it's really not fair for the new contestants.

Hopefuls Try Out for Tommy Lee Band
Thursday Mar 23, 2006 8:45am ESTBy Stephen M. Silverman CREDIT: LOUIS LANZANO / AP Auditions are off and running for the new season of Rock Star. Last year, the CBS show found a new singer for INXS; this season, wannabe rockers will compete to front a hard-rock supergroup. The band, Supernova, consists of Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke. Approximately 60,000 singers are trying out at auditions around the world, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Callbacks are slated for today so that 16 finalists can be flown to Hollywood, where the show is taped. In San Francisco Tuesday, hundreds of hopefuls began lining up outside the Rockit Room nightclub some eight hours before the 10 a.m. casting call, according to the paper. During tryouts, aspirants tried to impress the four casting directors with their renditions of songs by Journey, Duran Duran, Maroon 5 and, most popular of all, Led Zeppelin. The new season will air this summer. Once a winner is selected, Supernova will record an album for release in the fall, with a world tour to follow in early 2007, Reuters reports. Last fall, Rock Star started off with slow ratings, but built an audience as the season progressed. By the end of the contest, Australian group INXS had named a new frontman, J.D. Fortune. With him onboard, the band revived its career with a new album, Switch, and an extensive tour. INXS will return to the road April 21 in Memphis. Guitarist Dave Navarro and actress Brooke Burke will return as the hosts of the show for producer Mark Burnett (Survivor, The Apprentice). In a statement, Navarro promised appearances from Slash, Macy Gray, Moby and Rob Zombie during the season. Link |

Quote: Led Zeppelin, predictable, but yeah...Journey, soft, but I see it...Duran Duran...odd choice, could work (Heck, could work real well if you sing it after 3 wannabe Robert Plants)... Maroon 5? |

Aside from Butterfly Girl I don't want any of them back. And I loved Marty and Suzie but it just wouldn't be fair to any of the new contestants.

Auditions were in Calgary today, right across from where I work, so I checked it out on my way home this morning, at 7am about 30 people lined up, all looked homeless, so I don't know if we will get any stars out of the Calgary auditions, the one profiled in todays newspaper is old and looks queeny, so doubt he will make it either.

Does a woman really stand a chance in such a "boy's club" oriented environment? I mean, they'll keep one or two around for awhile to be PC, but what are the chances that macho guys are going to want the image of being fronted by a girl. Why even bother to invite women to compete?

Yeah, The Pretenders, Blondie and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts really had a hard time with that whole "woman lead singer" thing.

I just assumed that Pleasant Mama was talking about these particular guys not really playing well with a woman - Tommy Lee in particular.
As for the Pretenders, Joan Jett, and Blondie - there have been good rock bands with female leads, but how many of them have gone "supernova" and stayed at the top? Out of the three of those groups, only Joan Jett and the Blackhearts can ever really be considered hard rock & she hasn't really been burning up the charts lately. Even bands like Heart and Jefferson Airplane that lasted for awhile haven't had as long or as successful careers as the Stones or Ozzy or even Motley Crue. |

Any updates on this show yet? Did Suzie really say no to the show? Can't wait till it starts.
