It's Jennifer Lopez, whose singing and acting career has been on the skids after her recent movie failed at the box office in the spring and she was dropped by her record company Sony Music Epic Records this past winter. We hear her manager Benny Medina (whom she once fired) orchestrated the meeting with the American Idol producers a month ago, and negotiations have been ongoing ever since. She's old enough to be old school and young enough to relate to the kids who watch the show. I think she is also personable and down to earth. Much better choice than Ellen.

When it comes to self-centered, nasty, bitchy, diva-ish behavior, JLo is easily a match for Simon. It's one reason her career hasn't been more successful--people don't want to deal with her unless they have to. Having said that, I am happy Ellen is leaving. I think she knows how useless she was, and she also probably realizes the show is going down the tube and doesn't want to the be a judge for the show's last season. JLo at least knows something about music, has nothing left to lose at this point and will probably enjoy humiliating the bad singers.

Right now, it all cattle call auditions with producers weeding out contestants -- ones with potential and ones who are trainwrecks. They get called back multiple times during the process. They also use this time to film remote segments. They need to get the judging panel in place before they start shooting the actual auditions in front of the judges.

They could have picked ANYONE else and I'd make the best of it. This (aka my undying hatred) is just... not something I can manage. I couldn't stand Kara (good riddance), but didn't necessarily hate her with every fiber of my being like so many here. Can you teach me how to work around my hatred or do I just need to fast forward through every JHo segment? Meh. Maybe it's for the best. This show is so tired and I'd rather watch Simon on X Factor.

I haven't paid close attention the past few seasons. I'm just remembering watching Simon/Pauler/Randy get out of their limos in the audition cities, and thinking it all happened fairly quickly.

And if they actually do announce Steven Tyler (never saw THAT one coming!) then AI may be onto something. To be honest, I liked Kara and thought her critique was, by far, the most constructive and useful of any of the judges.
