The vampire octopus was cool, with the glowing eyes and tips. Also the other thingie, I don't remember what the hell it was, a bulb with flippers.

The shark was the coolest thing I have ever seen. Ohmigod, my husband and I rewound that and watched several times. 47 seconds in slow mo that the shark does in a second. Unbefuckinglievable.

I DVR'd 3 episodes last night. The poles, the ocean, and one other one. Is that all they have shown? What is the regular night that this plays? And does it matter if you watch them in order?

Quote: The 3 you listed are the the first three that were shown. There are 11 episodes in total. They will air every Sunday and there will be 2 episodes each Sunday starting next week. So it will all be shown in 5 weeks. I'm not sure about watching them in order. |

I just watched the first episode. I'm saving eps 2 and 3 for today and tomorrow because I want this to last.
Sigourney's not the problem, its the person who wrote some of the crappy narration. However, I have to keep in mind that this show is probably watched by a lot of children, who are probably enrapt with such lines as, "the bird of paradise gets ready to clear the dancefloor and boogie." Is there anything, anything, cuter then two polar bear cubs emerging from hibernation? Absolutely my favorite part were the hunting dogs (hyenas?). Who knew those fuckers were smarter than most human beings? Makes American domestic dogs seem like retards. Quote: Evolution is proven. Me and my friends looked exactly like them as we were wading through deep waters along the beach last year. You could totally see that one bitchy baboon thinking, "Damn it, I just picked the bugs out of my hair, and I have to wade through this shit?" Quote: I totally thought Whatevia when Sigourney, "However the female looks on, unimpressed." Somebody needs to make a screencap of that and put Whatevia's face on that birds neck. |

I'm pretty sure that Planet Earth is to nature shows what Sopranos was to TV dramas. I enjoyed watching it in HD on the ol' big screen so much.

I love how a Whatevia comparison even gets made in a Planet Earth thread.

I'm usually a sucker for nature films, but this just doesn't live up to the hype. I doubt anything could.

I loved the Bird of Paradise...that was awesome, I've never seen them perform their mating dance before. I also liked the other BOP that swung its head from side to side, it looked like it was on crack.

So I was watching....something, can't remember what now lol....anyway...apparently that Snow Leopard they caught on film (thanks to amazing new technology!!!11!!1111) was in the same mountains where Osama was hiding out. They wanted to film at a certain time and the military wouldn't let them in, they had to wait till the next year. Kinda crazy

Political instability can sometimes be a boon to the environment. The DMZ in between the Koreas is now an incredible wildlife sancutary by default.
The Panama canal zone used to be similar - though now I hear Panama wants to develop it. I can't watch these shows anymore I get so sad and pissed off about how people treat the planet. |

I caught up on the 3 episodes shown previously and the 2 new ones shown last night. I am definitely buying the DVD for this one. I usually avoid what I call "food chain" documentaries and global warming stories really get to me (30+ years of doing my part have gotten me no where), but this is one series absolutely worth watching.
I sought out this thread in the sticky so I could bump it to the first page! Watch this show!!! (and yeah that shark was amazing!) |

I just watched a polar bear attack a walrus.
The walrus beat the polar bear. That's some fucked up, awesome shit. |

Often as a child, I wished I lived in the US.
Yet, I can watch this magnificently beautiful series with the original narration by the supremely eloquent David Attenborough instead of being subjected to a bastardized version of the text rewritten for low intellects/attention spans, and voiced by a wooden Hollywood has-been. Today I am proud and happy to be Canadian. |

Quote: Better mark the occasion, I don't imagine that happens too often ;-) But yeah, Sigourney sucks. And it is bugging me more and more how much they talk about themselves "Our cameramen had to sit on the ice for three days to get this shot" I don't give a fuck. Save that shit for the extras. You are detracting from the magnificence of the footage by talking about how you got it. I love this icerberg though, it's so cool looking
