Take Home Chef |

Anyone seen this great show on TLC? This attractive male chef picks up women in the supermarket and goes back to their house and helps them prepare a great dinner. It is a little bit of a twist off the ordinary cooking program.

Oh Yeah........hes on my *list*. With those looks and that accent! He seems to be in CA only though. So I doubt I will be seeing him in my local Meijers here in Indiana.

I quite like this show - probably because Curtis is such a cutie, LOL. He's really growing on me. The more I watch, the more I want to watch.
I think I've seen about 6 episodes, or parts of, and so far everybody but one has had a gas stove. And most of the houses have been mansions - although one house was so modest that they couldn't film a single scene in the kitchen - had to be done on the patio - everything was grilled and ALL the food prep was done out there. Must have been a small kitchen! Mostly I HATE the fact that they all live in mansions - because it makes me jealous. No wait, I'm mostly jealous because Curtis came to their house, not mine! Most of the food he makes doesn't interest me that much - I don't like lamb and I don't like mussels clams and oysters, and I seriously doubt I'm ever going to deep fry anything in my life. What cracks me up is the women who can't cook - a couple of them have these fabulous kitchens, and don't have a clue about anything. Like, did you see the "jumper"? This woman with some medical condition that requires her to jump around every now and then to get her blood moving or something. When Curtis approached her in the store, she was holding a jar of spaghetti sauce, LOL. |

Finally some realism on the show... one of the women actually was supposed to go to work in the afternoon, had to phone her boss and get the afternoon off. Ok, so that last part isn't realistic in my world but someone having PLANS for the day is.
And she had an electric stove for a change. I was starting to think there was no such thing in California. I'm starting to get tired of this show. How many times can you watch the beginning grocery store scenes, it all looks the same after a while. In fact if I do watch again, I'll have to start looking for repeat footage. |

Quote: There is, but gas ranges are still considered superior to electric, so in any kitchen with high-end appliances you're much more likely to find gas than electric. |

He actually picked up a MAN on an episode! Fun to watch. The guy was thrilled to have someone cook his dinner. But changing the babies diaper while Curtis was in the fun store was a little staged and stoopid.

Quote: and I guess that grocery store is in a high-end neighborhood, hence the increased probability that someone will have a gas stove. But it irks me. It's almost as though they are screening people off camera, and if they say they have an electric stove, they won't get on the show. |

Gotten pretty formulaic now | ||

Curtis finds someone shopping in the store and freaks them out a bit with all his crew. He then tells the same story about having worked for top restaurants in London for 10 years.
Asks for ride in their car. Asks to stop at little specialty shop on the way to get some special item. Asks the women to call their hubby/boyfriend to find out what time they will be home. Compliments them on their house and kitchen, even if it is just a tiny apartment. The women always ask if they can "freshen up". Teaches women correct way to use knife on cutting board. Breaks out the wine for a glass while cooking. Makes comment he is worried about how the hubby/boyfriend will react when they get home. Hubby/boyfriend get home. Curtis explains that he met their lovely wife/girlfriend at the market and they discussed all their favorite foods. Curtis serves the dinner and they ooh and ahh over it, even if it is just grilled portabella mushrooms. Serves dessert and says he will leave now to let them enjoy their dessert in peace. Closes by reminding you to dress up because you never know who you are going to meet in the market. |

Why does he wear so much eye makeup?
I want to see an episode where the husband comes home and the chef is fucking the wife on the kitchen countertop. They must be saving that for the DVD footage. |

Sous chefs | ||
|
I notice in the credits a couple people listed as sous chefs. A sous chef is an assistant chef. In some of these tight apartments where there isn't really even room for Curtis and the person he is cooking with (the selectee) in the kitchen, how do you squeeze in a couple assistants as well. Or does Curtis and the selectee vacate the kitchen while the assistant chefs do a lot of the prep? I wonder how much of the dinner Curtis actually prepares.

Re: Sous chefs | ||

My guess is the sous chefs do a lot of prep work that just isnt' aired--common practice on tv shows. Since film time is expensive, they try to do as much of it off camera as is possible.

Every show I have seen of this - he picks up a hot woman who is shopping. Never the fat women, never ugly. And he isn't that cute either. Ick.

Good to see Curtis is doing some traveling now. I've seen shows now where he is in San Francisco, Napa Valley, Seattle and Chicago.
Also, I like that he is being recognized sometimes; because he doesn't have to go through his whole spiel about how long he has been a chef, etc. |

The show has moved from 5:00pm to 4:00pm and seems to just be reruns. Does this mean the show is losing favor with TLC?
