Hard to review them all after not seeing them in years, but my favorite was definitely when Kelly G got the boot. ;)

Don't feel like doing a big ass survey, but my favorite episode of all time was when Marquesas John got the boot.

Really? For me it's Sandra and Tom. I loved Richard, but I knew he won but the time S1 was broadcast in Israel, so I couldn't really root for him...

Re: SURVEY: Survivor: The Definitive Episode Ranking

The results are in! As I said in the first post, until it gets to the top 50, I'll be posting ten episodes at a time. However, since there are 142 episodes, I'll be posting the bottom 12 episodes right now. Feel free to share thoughts/predictions on the rankings. If you want specific information on an episode (average rating, how many ranked it a 10, etc.), wait until after all of the episodes have been posted, and I'll be glad to answer any questions.
It'd be interesting to do this survey again once more of the seasons are released on DVD, so that everyone can remember the episodes a little better. And now, the bottom 12: ![]() 142. Episode 209 The First 24 Days: A Closer Look March 21, 2001 At the games halfway point, we take a look back at some of the most memorable moments from the first eight episodes, with some new footage, including Jerri singing Fiona Apples Criminal. ![]() 141. Episode 511 A Closer Look November 26, 2002 A mixture of new and old footage from the first ten episodes of Survivor: Thailand. ![]() 140. Episode 308 The First 21 Days: A Closer Look November 29, 2001 New footage is interspersed among highlights from the first seven episodes of the third Survivor installment. ![]() 139. Episode 809 A Closer Look (a.k.a. All Star Redux) March 24, 2004 The sixth (and thus far, final) recap episode of the series explores the first eight episodes of All Stars. Among the new footage is a mock Tribal Council from Chapera. ![]() 138. Episode 409 Look Closer: The First 24 Days April 24, 2002 The series third recap episode explores the first 24 days of Survivor: Marquesas. New footage includes a discussion between the new alliance of five about voting off John in the previous episode. ![]() 137. Episode 806 Outraged! March 4, 2004 Feeling as though Colby had attacked her strategy at the previous Tribal Council, Shii Ann confronted him. Meanwhile, over at Chapera, Sue was in a downward spiral when she couldnt stop thinking about what Richard did to her at the past challenge. When the tribes got to the reward challenge, Sue unleashed a diatribe against Rich, and quit the game. ![]() 136. Episode 509 Desperate Measures November 14, 2002 The tribes went to the reward challenge, where Jeff told them that they had finally merged. Brian won a video from home, and later, Clay won immunity. Due to the late merge, Chuay Gahn had a 5-3 advantage over Sook Jai. They used this at Tribal Council, and got rid of Ken. ![]() 135. Episode 505 The Oceans Surprise October 17, 2002 On the morning of day 14, Ted woke up to find that Chuay Ghans boat (with the fishing net inside) had floated away. Clay was quick to point fingers at Ted for the canoes disappearance. Later, the two tribes assembled for a Survivor auction. Before the auction began, however, Jeff Probst offered the contestants a chance to switch tribes. Nobody took the offer. When Sook Jai lost the immunity challenge, Stephanie felt vulnerable and wished she had switched tribes. That night, she was voted out of the game. ![]() 134. Episode 512 A Big Surprise and Another December 5, 2002 At the reward challenge, the Survivors loved ones participated in a gross foods challenge. Helens husband won a day at camp with the tribe. When all of the loved ones returned to be the players partners in the immunity challenge, Ted won immunity. Jake, the last remaining member of Sook Jai, became the fourth member of the jury. ![]() 133. Episode 812 A Thoughtful Gesture or a Deceptive Plan? April 15, 2004 Each player got to see a snippet of a video his or her families made. The immunity challenge winner would get their whole tape. Boston Rob won, but in an attempt to clear up the bad blood around camp, he gave up his video so that everyone could get a letter from home. Kathy and Shii Ann tried to stir up the game, but it was no use: the former members of Chapera all voted Kathy out. ![]() 132. Episode 904 Now Thats a Reward October 7, 2004 Brady tried fishing to keep his place in the tribe. The women won Da, a Vanuatu native, as a reward, who showed them tricks of the trade. Rory had trouble controlling his tribe in the immunity challenge, sending the men back to Tribal Council, where Brady was voted off. ![]() TIE: 130. Episode 815 The Instigator May 6, 2004 Boston Rob won a car in the reward challenge, and took Amber with him on a movie date. There, she was shocked to learn that she too had won a car. When they got back, Rob instigated a fight between Rupert and Tom to ensure that they wouldnt align to break up Rob and Amber. Rob won immunity, and Tom was blindsided when he was unanimously voted off. |

Re: SURVEY: Survivor: The Definitive Episode Ranking

Interesting. Most of the late episodes in Thailand were indeed awful. I felt the Jake boot, though terribly predictable, wasn't that bad.
The last places go to recraps (even though I think the ASS recrap was better than most regular episodes) and predictable pagonging episodes, perhaps outside of the Tom boot (which wasn't that bad, actually). |

Re: SURVEY: Survivor: The Definitive Episode Ranking

I thought that the contestant ranking was great but this one is starting with a lot of bias. Two of the most boring episodes in the history of Survivor, the S2 Finale (a disasterous 2 hour snoozefest) and the next to last episode of S3 (Tbird boot, zzzzzzz) should have placed lower than the Final 5 episode of S8. Hopefully they are coming soon. The Finale of S2 nearly killed that season for me and is why I will always consider S1 > S2.

Re: SURVEY: Survivor: The Definitive Episode Ranking
|
There were a lot of them that I double and triple-checked to make sure they were right...a couple of episodes got a lot higher than I think they should have and vice versa.
Anyway, here's 130-121... ![]() TIE: 130. Episode 814 A Chapera Surprise April 29, 2004 The Survivors loved ones had to eat a series of delicacies from places Survivor has visited in the past. Big Toms son, Bucky Bo, won, and Tom, Bucky Bo, and Rob and his brother Mike all got a boys night out. Shii Ann fought hard to stay in the game, but in the end, Tom won immunity, and she was voted off. ![]() 129. Episode 510 While the Cats are Away November 21, 2002 Brian took Clay along on a reward of a helicopter ride and an elephant ride. Meanwhile, Penny stayed away from former ally Jake, fearing that it would make her more of a target. At the immunity challenge, a correct answer of a Thai trivia question gave players the opportunity to snuff each others torches. Penny immediately went and snuffed Jakes. Helen won, and Chuay Gahn ultimately decided to vote off Penny instead of Jake. ![]() 128. Episode 901 They Came at Us with Spears September 16, 2004 After the 18 players watched a Vanuatu tribal ceremony, they were divided into tribes by gender: the women were Yasur; the men were Lopevi. Both tribes hiked to their camps, and at Yasur, it soon became clear that the older women and younger women werent going to get along. At the immunity challenge, Chris had trouble crossing the balance beam, costing the men the challenge. But a plan was hatched to keep Chris and the older members around, voting off the younger, more physical members of the tribe. At Tribal Council, it was Brook who paid the price for Chriss mistake. ![]() 127. Episode 808 Pick a Tribemate March 17, 2004 Tree Mail instructed the tribes to send a representative to the other camp. Jenna L. and Kathy were chosen, and had to choose three items from the opposing tribe that they could win in the reward challenge. Chapera won. Later, Boston Rob and Amber shared a passionate kiss, and a cocky Rob soon faced off against Rupert in fishing. When Mogo Mogo lost immunity, Lex pulled his pal Ethan aside and told him he was going to be voted off. Despite his attempts to stay, Ethan, the last remaining former winner, became the eighth person to leave the game. ![]() 126. Episode 610 Amazon Redux April 17, 2003 The series fifth recap episode includes new footage and highlights from the first nine episodes of Survivor: The Amazon. ![]() 125. Episode 508 Sleeping with the Enemy November 7, 2002 The immunity challenge tested the Survivors ability to breathe through snorkels underwater. The tribe that lasted the longest cumulative time would win. It came down to Brian and Jake, but Jake came up and Brian won the challenge for Chuay Gahn. Erin was voted off. ![]() 124. Episode 504 Gender Bender October 10, 2002 The incident between Ghandia and Ted had reached a new level; the two werent speaking to each other. This sparked a battle of the sexes at Chuay Gahn. When they lost the immunity challenge, Ghandia proposed the women stick together and force a tie. Helen considered the proposition, but decided to vote with the men for Ghandia. ![]() 123. Episode 816 The Sole Surviving All Star May 9, 2004 The final four All Stars received breakfast on day 37. Then, they went to a challenge, and Amber won her first immunity challenge. Jenna was split between joining Rob and Amber in voting off Rupert, or forcing a tie with Rupert against Rob. She made her decision at Tribal Council, and Rupert became the sixth member of the jury. Rob won the final immunity challenge, and decided to bring his alliance partner from day one, Amber, to the final two. Jenna became the final juror. The final Tribal Council was full of bitter speeches and angry comments from many of the jurors. In a 4-3 decision, Amber was declared the winner of Survivor All Stars. ![]() TIE: 121. Episode 503 Family Values October 3, 2002 Ted and Ghandia began to bond, but on night 6, Ted began to get too close to Ghandia, who accused him of grinding her. When he learned of how she felt, he apologized and said that he thought she was his wife. Sook Jai dominated the reward challenge, until they violated the rules too many times: in the first time the attack zone was utilized in a challenge, Ken, Jed, and Stephanie all made contact with the opposing tribe while not in the attack zone, while Robb did the same, only he decided to grab Clay around the throat. Chuay Gahn won two Red Berets for 24 hours. Meanwhile, Ghandia was still upset with Ted, and told the women he needed to go. When Helen told Brian this, he went to hear Teds side of the story, and soon, Ghandia threw a temper tantrum. When Robb and Jed lost the tribes fishing net, Sook Jai threw the immunity challenge, and voted off Jed. ![]() TIE: 121. Episode 502 The Great Divide September 26, 2002 Jan and Helen went to find the water source, and while Jan was aggravating Helen, the men stayed back and played golf. When Sook Jai won their second consecutive immunity challenge, Tanya was voted off due to her sickness. That's right, the ASS finale is ranked #123. Also showing up too early (IMHO): the ASS episode with Shii Ann's boot, and Thailand's third and fourth episodes (am I the only one who remembers grindgate, the original attack zone challenge, and "Goodbye Denver Diva"?). But hey, 119 Survivor fans can't be wrong. |

No S7 episodes in the bottom 20! I knew Pearl Islands was the best season. I'm curious about which S7 episodes will place highest and lowest.

Re: SURVEY: Survivor: The Definitive Episode Ranking

beatles 20147, your sarcasm at the end of your post is well stated. People are ranking episodes based on how they like the season rather than by content. There is no way that Grindgate (the best episode that season) and the ASS finale should be this low. As observed for years, most of the posters at Sucks are just a bunch of whiners.

Re: SURVEY: Survivor: The Definitive Episode Ranking

People are consistent in disliking the sexual harassment episodes in both S5 and ASS. I concur. The Sue quits episode was when Sucks began to turn on ASS, the Kathy boot episode was also bad.
The low ratings for the last two episodes of ASS are only evidience of anti-Romber feelings. The F5 episode was the ultimate Romber episode - the last, best chance to stop them, they win 2 cars and a movie date, and have the Chapera Chumps completely owned. |

You're right. The grindgate episode was disturbing and sad. The Sue quits episode was, IMO, the worst ever.
