Why move from one-on-one duels before the merge to group duels post-merge? A: It’s simply a numbers thing. In order to have enough people to get us through the majority of the season we end up having too many at the end, so we have to get rid of them! It made sense to increase the numbers post merge. One of the exciting benefits of having multiple people at Redemption is that it keeps more people in the game, all with a shot at the money. The final episode will have eight people still vying for a shot at winning. EIGHT????

Over the years, they all have expanded the number of teams that qualify for the playoffs, hence keeping up interest (hope) in more teams. Old schoolers may not like this, but it's the way of the world now. I think SEG has fallen into this way of thinking.

I redid my spec of Ep 11 and 12 to possibly have two voted out next week, as there is a twist announced. That will allow Ep 12 to be Family Visit. __________ Jeff says there's a twist at the Ep 11 TC, so I want to do a revision with two votees in Ep 11. The reason it didn't seem to work is that 5 would bunch up at RI, but if there's only one TC, that allows time for a duel. I'm going to see if this works with at least two not eliminated, as it may be the new norm. EPISODE 11 Beginning: Redemption 3, Murlonia 8, Juror 1 Day 1 DUEL: 3-way. 1 to jury, 2 remain. The question this week is, how do they vote two people out at one TC, so that they have time for the duel? In the Cooks variation, it was still the tribal phase, and I don't remember any immunity. It would be wrong for one immunity win to protect someone for two votes, so they need to deal with a second IC? Having no immunity for a vote is also contrary to the game. At this point he has to be considered the best puzzle solver in Survivor history. Let’s say you have to pick one other current or former contestant to take him on in a puzzle. Whom would you pick and why? There is no question in my mind that Rob is the single best contestant that has ever played Survivor. Nobody close. He is a triple threat. He can kick your ass physically, he’s a great strategist, and as you’re seeing this season, he is very good at the social game. If I had to pick one person to take him on in a puzzle challenge it would be Yul Kwon. Yul is an amazing player. An incredibly boring interview but a great player! Already forgot about Steve?

There have been many tribal councils where the vote has been unanimous except that the targeted person has to vote for someone other than themself. In that situation the intended bootee would solely determine the other person that was voted out.

It seems so unnecessarily complex. And it sets up a defacto second tribe that's already been voted out from the main game, which is just weird. So at the finale, instead of having four people who worked hard to get where they are (or rode Rob's coattails) there are four people in the game, a second tribe in the game on RI and four pissed off jurors (well, except they're eating) who wonder why they had to be the unlucky four not still in the game? I hated RI before now, but this just makes me gag. And I say this as someone who really likes Matt. But I really liked Hunger in Marquesas, and he didn't get a chance to get back in the game. Meh.

Yup. Though I don't think it makes strategic sense in that Andrea couldn't jump alone and make a difference - she would need to bring other Ometepe's with her. Making the move against her now gives her more options as she could use Steve and Ralph votes. She'd only need one other Ometepe to jump and force a tie and Steve/Ralph/Andrea were willing to go the purple rock route which I think they would considering their place in the game. If they targeted Philip it would mean he'd be immune for the purple rocks (along with the Ometepe target) would Rob, Grant, Natalie risk a one in six chance they pick the purple rock over booting Philip and hoping to make their case to get back one of the flippers and still have the 4-3 advantage the next week? If Rob boots Ralph and Steve first it really limits Andrea's options even if Matt came back. Also Matt would surely go to Ralph and Steve, whereas he wouldn't trust Andrea and Andrea might not trust him with any strategy.

In recent weeks we have been shown that Rob "may" be in trouble which turned out to be much ado about nothing. I suspect this is the same thing. Andrea's chance at a "power move" is long gone. Had she wanted to make the big move, she should have done so at the merge. She could have joined them, pulled Matt in and then targeted someone else. Even with Matt blowing their strategy with Rob, Andrea was reluctant at that point to make the leap. There is no indication that she will try it now when the numbers are even less. As to Rob being fearful of Matt coming back and joining with Andrea, I'm sure that is true but I can't see Rob pulling the trigger on Andrea while Steve and Ralph are still around. He may have good reasons to want Andrea gone but I don't think it will be this week.
