[rant] I admit it, the girl had a very good performance (see YouTube link below) but when Simon praises someone, he really has to go overdrive with his praises doesn't he? Apparently Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, whoever his dumb winner of Pop Idol 2 was, Carrie, etc apparently all can't sing now. It just shows how meaningless Simon's comments are. I'll wager a bet that Simon says something similar to someone during AI6.

All of the girls were subpar and couldn't sing. The only decent one was Mandisa and then she went all preachy and lost her way. However, TPTB wanted a male winner so they stacked the male talent and brought in inferior female talent. As for Leona, I thought she was average. Decent karaoke version but not the best I've ever heard on a show.

And in AI 1, he said almost the same thing to that other Kelly, the black girl with the wild hair that auditioned singing "Reflections." He always overdoes it when it comes to a very pretty girl (Christina Christian, Pickler) whose personality he really likes. He never cared for Kat McPhee which is why he never praised her. ETA: Oh, I see why he over praised: she's pretty. That seems to count with Simon moreso than anyother thing, singing, for him is second.

The show has an added element of the judges competing against each other and Leona is being mentored by Simon. There is absolutely no way he's going to criticize any of his own acts unless they lay an egg on stage. Even then, he will try to rationalize it and downplay it.
